Vikings Territory Breakdown: Kirk is Key to Vikings Success in ’22—Where Do You Rank Him?

It’s no mystery who the most important Viking is this season or any season and that is quarterback Kirk Cousins. Cousins comes into this year, his fifth with Minnesota, with a big cap number and a lot of set pieces around him. The new regime of Kwesi Adolfo-Mensah and Kevin O’Connell have put Cousins in the best position they can to help him succeed, at least the best position that he’s had since he’s been a Viking. He’s got plenty of weapons at wide receiver, a top-five running back, returning tight end who is another big target and what should be an improved offense of line. So, the table is set for Cousins to have a big season.

But will he? That remains to be seen, but in the meantime, since it’s the end of June with a month before training camp starts, we get to speculate on whether or not he will. The question, right now, is where do you see Kirk Cousins ranked against other quarterbacks in the league?

With all these new weapons and set pieces around him, where is he going to finish this year? Is he a top 10 quarterback or has he dropped down to his usual position of the middle of the pack?

Some people have ranked Cousins and the Vikings ranked fairly highly this year, while others not so much. Some say Kwesi and KOC are in over their heads and others believe the Vikings are a Dark Horse to finish atop the NFC Conference. The predictions are all over the board and those in the extreme either way are likely a ways off.

But it all depends on cousins. His performance will dictate where the Vikings finish. The defense should be improved (it won’t be hard to improve on the one from last season) and the personal department has made the moves for that improvement. If a better D is the case, that should allow Cousins and his improved offense to finish better than last season when most of the blame for the 8-9 record was laid at the feet of a flagging defense.

So, with Cousins being the card, we decided to rank him here on Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast. Mark Craig from the Star Tribune and startribune.com joins Joe Oberle from Vikings Territory and purplePTSD and weigh in on where we think he should be ranked and what other think. We will also tackle some of the other news of the day, as far as the purple is concerned, but it all takes a backseat to a discussion of quarterback Kirk Cousins, old number eight with his big smile and sunburned shoulders. Tune into see where we think he ranks.
