The Minnesota Timberwolves are in the NBA playoffs, and the Minnesota Vikings were in the building to ensure it happened.

The Wolves defeated the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday in a play-in game determining playoff entry fate. Both franchises are historically downtrodden in terms of championships and reputation. Although, over the last decade, the Clippers markedly improved.

Minnesota, on the other hand, hasn’t won a playoff series since 2004 — the Kevin Garnett, Latrell Sprewell, and Sam Cassell days — so every morsel of success feels like a parade-worthy feat.

And one of those occurred Tuesday as the Wolves move on to the “real” playoffs, taking on the upstart Memphis Grizzlies, the Western Conference’s 2-seed this weekend.

While the Wolves encountered a topsy-turvy game where the franchise’s best player, Karl-Anthony Towns, was wildly ineffective, Vikings players looked on from a suite.

Harrison Phillips, Eric Kendricks, Patrick Jones II, and Jaylen Twyman, among others, joined Za’Darius Smith for a birdseye view of the Wolves triumph. For Phillips and Smith, they’re brand new to the Vikings, so seeing the men already ingrained in Minnesota sports is noteworthy.

After the game, Vikings veteran cornerback Patrick Peterson congratulated the Wolves on a job well done.

Peterson joined the Vikings via free agency — like Phillips and Smith — last year on St. Patrick’s Day. He signed a one-year extension with the club in March. Therefore, all of these “new” Vikings signings are embracing Minnesota’s brotherhood seamlessly.

Too, the Vikings main Twitter account chimed in to cheer for the basketball team.

The Wolves take on the Grizzlies in Memphis for Game 1 of the 1st Round this Saturday at 2:30 pm CST.
