The Las Vegas Raiders conducted a momentous offseason in 2022, adding Josh McDaniels as head coach, trading for Davante Adams from the Green Bay Packers, signing EDGE rusher Chandler Jones, and re-signing quarterback Derek Carr for three more years.

On Monday, Las Vegas made a smaller move, welcoming former Minnesota Vikings cornerback Chris Jones to the summer roster.

Jones played for the Vikings in 2020 when the roster depth became suddenly skimpy with the departures of Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, and Mackenise Alexander in free agency. In that campaign, the pandemic season, Jones played in eight Vikings games while starting three of them.

Jones is a young journeyman, just 26 years old, but spending time with five organizations to date — the Cardinals, Lions, Vikings, Titans, and now Raiders. During the 2018 draft cycle, Jones was an undrafted free agent from the University of Nebraska, plucked by the Cardinals, where he played in 13 games in 2018 and 2019.

With Las Vegas, Jones will fight for a roster spot as the franchise currently has 10 cornerbacks on the roster. And, per his current resume, Jones is not a starting-caliber CB, so his likelihood of making the Raiders 53-man roster in September is slim.

Here’s the tape of Jones with the Vikings.

In 2021 with Tennesee, Jones tallied a 67.3 grade from Pro Football Focus, a spike from his 46.0 grade in 2020 with the Vikings. If he keeps up the 60-grade-range pace, he’ll catch on somewhere as a depth corner if the Raiders don’t onboard him in September.

With the Raiders, Jones joins other former Vikings Ameer Abdullah (RB), Tashawn Bower (EDGE), and Daniel Carlson (K).
