Vikings Sign WR Terrell Sinkfield, CFL Speedster

By Adam Warwas

When it comes to the forty yard dash, former Northern Iowa wide out Terrell Sinkfield is either a myth or a legend, depending on your level of skepticism. The Vikings signed Sinkfield on Friday and, regardless of your opinion on his reported 4.19 second forty yard dash time in 2013, there is no denying that they have added some serious speed by doing so.

The Minnetonka native is listed at 6′ 1″ and 192 pounds and has experience running the ball, as a return man on special team, and also as a pass catching deep threat.

Despite the scorching forty time catching the attention of everyone back in 2013, Sinkfield went undrafted in 2014 before serving brief stints with the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills, and New York Giants. When he was unable to find a permanent home in the NFL, Sinkfield headed north to the CFL where his versatility and athleticism made him a productive player.

Under Assistant General Manager George Paton the Vikings seem to always have a close eye on potential contributors available this time of year from the CFL. In recent years they have signed the likes of LB Brian Peters, CB Jalil Carter, CB Rod Williams, G Tyler Holmes, and LB Solomon Elimimian.

This list should provide plenty of reason to pump the brakes on any “What this might mean for Cordarrelle Patterson” speculation, because seldom do CFL signings work out in a meaningful way. Modern NFL history is not littered with Cameron Wakes to hold up as examples.

Still, the fact that our team is adding players with notable talents this time of year is not a bad thing, and I hope they continue to check out those intriguing long-shots we all love to root for. The team also took a look at running back Isaiah Pead this week, according to ESPN.

  • I like the signing, I think he could definitely beat out Patterson. Plus it would be sweet to have ANOTHER minnesotan on the team.
As for prior signings, Peters was the only player who should have made the roster. I'm still a little upset we let him get away.

    • Jackson, you are 100% correct and I appreciate you pointing that out. It was an honest mistake (I shouldn't select videos when the computer is on mute) and I've found a more suitable video. Thank you.
