The Minnesota Vikings made four transactions in the day leading up to training camp. They waived running back Roc Thomas and added guard Tiano Pupungatoa, then waived safety Micah Abernathy and acquired running back De’Angelo Henderson. Now, a few days into training camp, the team roster sits at an offseason maximum 90 players. To get caught up on who’s all on the team, let’s take a look at the current players that comprise the roster. To make things a little more interesting, I’ve noted which players will become free agents following the season and also added my 53-man projection. The Vikings will trim down the roster to 53 players on August 31st (3pm CST deadline).

This draft recap is written through the eyes of two veteran Viking minds. We felt it was important to use a well-rounded look at how the team’s 12 selections will affect the rest of the roster. One viewpoint is a little more optimistic and the other a little more… let’s say realistic. Here are our thoughts:

On Wednesday the Minnesota Vikings announced that they would be signing Former Titans’ guard Josh Kline to a three-year contract. Kline has spent the previous three seasons in Tennessee as their starting at right guard, and will likely be playing the same position for the Vikings in 2019. Coming off of a down year, fans and scouts alike wonder if the Vikings will see Kline play to his higher potential, or follow up a sub-par 2018 season with a similar performance. Despite playing all 16 games, Kline did suffer an injury in October of last year in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Vikings certainly are hoping that his performance issues last year were related to playing through this injury.

The Minnesota Vikings brought back one of their own on Monday. The team re-signed running back Ameer Abdullah to a one-year deal. Financial terms of the contract have not yet been released.Abdullah (5-9, 203) was claimed off waivers by the Vikings last November after being released by the Detroit Lions. The 25 year-old received limited touches with Dalvin Cook, Latavius Murray and Mike Boone ahead of him on the depth chart. In seven games he hauled in one catch for 10 yards. As a kick returner he averaged 25.8 yards per attempt on 10 kick returns.
