Darn Vikings Help Turn Sammy D into a SB Champion QB
Vikings Territory Breakdown Podcast
The Seattle Seahawks, with their “new” quarterback Sam Darnold (recently of the Minnesota Vikings) beat the New England patriots with their second-year starter Drake Maye at QB 29-13 in Super Bowl LX. This would usually signal the end of last season in the NFL and for the Vikings, but given the lively discussions over the dueling halftime shows and the fact that Darnold could have remained “one of us,” the loud and heated debate over SB LX will continue for a while.
Congratulations to Sam Darnold—let’s just get that out here right away before too much lamenting and self-loathing over what could have been cloud one of the best football reclamation stories in league history. Former No. 1 pick Darnold bounced around between five teams in his relatively short career, ultimately landing in Seattle, and while we recognize his whole playoff story this season wasn’t one of legendary renown, he did do something that has never been done: he led two separate teams to 14-win seasons back-to-back. The fact that the latter one led to a Super Bowl ring and the former just led to more local handwringing seems more like a Minnesota sports thing than anything else at this moment in time. So, good on you, Sam, for choosing the best path for yourself last offseason.
As for the Vikings, the build back to the prominence of 2024 begins in earnest—and looking back at what could have been does them no favors. But it does prove beneficial for Vikings podcasting. Therefore, the fellas at the Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast, Joe Oberle, senior writer at vikingsterritory.com and purplePTSD.com and Mark Craig, NFL and Vikings writer for the Star Tribune and startribune.com), will hash it out a little further. We will also discuss Purple news and postseason awards. Tune in and check it out. Skol!
