Vikes Season on the Brink with Loss to the Bears

Vikings Territory Breakdown

The Minnesota Vikings are in a spot of bother. By the numbers, it is just not good: a 19-17 loss to the Bears, a 4-6 record, and 1-4 record at home. Buckle up, Vikings fans. It may get rougher before it gets better.

The Vikings young quarterback J.J. McCarthy played another bad game. Despite having plenty of time behind a decent performance from the offensive line, he threw two picks (one clearly his fault) and air-mailed a number of passes to his receiving corps. There were several drops that put J.J. and the team in difficult situations, but with a running game that kept the opposing defense honest, too many misses from McCarthy spelled defeat for the team.

He looked good on the final drive that gave the Vikings their first lead, but a special teams meltdown on the kickoff return sealed the Purple’s fate. There was plenty of blame to go around (the defense kept them in the game, but were not able to contain Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, who slipped more predicaments than Houdini in a straightjacket.

On a two-game slide behind a quarterback who clearly has some growing pains to go through, the season is on the brink just as the team prepares for a trip to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers. So, where do we go from here? Well, the fellas at the Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast, Joe Oberle, senior writer at vikingsterritory.com and purplePTSD.com and Mark Craig, NFL and Vikings writer for the Star Tribune and startribune.com) will be on hand to discuss exactly that.
