Out of the Bye, Vikes Host Philly in a Big Game

The Vikings returned from their two-week, two-game, two-country sojourn to Europe with a 1-1 finish, a 3-2 record and a crowded trainer’s room—into the bye week. That bye, though early in the season, came at the right time for this squad with a lengthy injury report, and the Vikings are hopeful to get some players back rested, healthy and ready to take on the defending NFL Champion Eagles.

And nowhere is that injury report more important than in the quarterback room. Right now, this season’s starter at quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, is trying to return from a high ankle sprain that took place in the second game of the season; his backup Carson Wentz, who secured a 2-1 record from the bullpen, injured his left shoulder last game and since the team is on a bye, we know little more of his condition; and practice squad-er (and former Golden Gopher) Max Brosmer, who did see his first NFL action in replace of Wentz, is ready and eager to step in where needed. This is the biggest question of the bye week, but certainly not the only injury-related one for the Vikings.

Does linebacker Blake Cashman return (he is supposed to); how many offensive linemen will be back (Donovan Jackson and, perhaps, Brian O’Neill have been speculated to return); and will Christian Darrisaw and Harrison Smith remain on limited pitch counts? Inquiring minds want to know.

And the cohosts of Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast (Joe Oberle, senior writer at vikingsterritory.com and purplePTSD.com and Mark Craig, NFL and Vikings writer for the Star Tribune and startribune.com) are two of those inquiring minds. Is this the right week to get the Eagles, or are the champs not about to lose three in a row? The fellas will discuss it all. Tune in to the podcast and check it out. Skol!
