Dolphins GM Shatters Vikings Trade Theory

If you had your heart set on the Minnesota Vikings potentially acquiring Miami Dolphins speedster wide receiver Tyreek Hill, it’s time to reconsider or find a different trade proposal.

Dolphins GM Shatters Vikings Trade Theory

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier spoke to reporters on Tuesday, just nine days before the 2025 NFL Draft, and he totally brushed aside any Hill trade fodder.

In short, the Super Bowl champion is not for sale unless some team wants to pay two 1st-Rounders.

Tyreek Hill Not For Sale, Says Miami GM Chris Grier

Hill has twisted in the trade rumor mill for three months, so predictably, reporters asked Grier about his trade availability this week.

“That is not anything that we’re pursuing. If someone wants to come and give me two first-rounders, we’ll consider it,” Grier replied.

“He’s been working and doing all the things to show his teammates this is where he wants to be. He’s been great. Things happen with players.”

And two 1st-Rounders for an aging wide receiver — even an icon like Hill — is utterly absurd. Grier basically yanked Hill off the market if he was even inside it in the first place.

No team will pay two 1st-Round picks for Hill, a 31-year-old, who tabulated 959 receiving yards in 2024 while playing all 17 games.

Fringe Trade Theories in the First Place

The Hill trade rumor, especially regarding the Vikings, was a little flimsy in the first place. Minnesota has just four draft picks at its disposal in 2025 after selling most of the draft class to the Jacksonville Jaguars one year ago for the pick that landed Dallas Turner.

But because Hill is so damn dynamic in his purest form and because some fans daydream about a “Three Deep” offense involving Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Hill, the faint rumor persisted since the offseason kicked off.

Earlier this week, The Palm Beach Post‘s Joe Schad spitballed a handful of questions for Grier, and at forefront were items involving Hill. Schad wrote, “What is your reaction to Tyreek Hill’s recent alleged domestic dispute? The Dolphins cannot be pleased with Hill following another off-field disturbance.”

“It would be easy to say trade Hill, but it would leave a giant void of talent. And the return would likely be less than desired. And there are enormous negative salary cap implications.”

Grier pretty much answered Schad’s queries with the “two 1st-Rounders” stakes.

Schad added, “As the highest-ranking member of the organization generally made available as the face of the organization, Grier may face a series of tough Hill-related questions. How open are the Dolphins to trading Tyreek Hill? Is releasing Tyreek Hill at any point off the table? What was owner Stephen Ross’ reaction to the latest Hill incident?”

Past Comments about Vikings from Hill

Vikings fans’ fascination with Hill didn’t entirely come from left field.

Three years ago, a Hill quote found its way to social media. Someone asked him where he would like to play — anywhere in the NFL — and he named Minnesota.

“If I had it my way, though, if I had to choose any team I wanted to play for, growing up as a kid, I was a Minnesota Viking fan. Love the Vikes, man,” Hill said in 2022.

Since that remark, Vikings enthusiasts have side-eyed Hill’s availability, spiking this offseason with Hill’s trade rumor mill evolving rather intensely.

Why the Hill Trade Rumor Mill at All?

In early January, the Dolphins failed to qualify for the postseason, frustrating Hill to the utmost. Soon after Week 18, Hill said he was done with Miami.

“This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs. I just gotta do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here or wherever the case may be, I’m finna open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out, bro,” Hill told reporters in a fit of angst.

“It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, bro, I got to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”

Those comments didn’t leave much to interpretation, increasing rumors about his departure.

Soon after, Hill walked back the trade request, although his mood still seems to flip off and on about being traded.

Jalen Ramsey Is Available, Though

In other Dolphins trade news, Miami cornerback Jalen Ramsey, a seven-time Pro Bowler, is verifiably on the trade market.

Grier told reporters about Ramsey during the same exchange when he ruled out Hill as trade candidate, save for two 1st-Rounders: “We decided it was probably in the best interest for all parties to move forward separately.”

Minnesota is unlikely to pursue Ramsey via trade, but it must be mentioned that Ramsey and Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell won a Super Bowl together with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.

Ramsey is 30 and remains one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks — and he’ll evidently be heading elsewhere this offseason unless he finds kumbaya like Hill did in late January.
