The 2025 NFL Draft is only nine days away, and as a possible event sweetener, a seven-time Pro Bowler will evidently be available via trade.

7-Time Pro Bowler Hits the Trade Block

He’s 30-year-old cornerback Jalen Ramsey, and his days as a Miami Dolphin are evidently numbered.

The Dolphins will reportedly listen to trade requests for three-time First-Team All-Pro.

The Jalen Ramsey Trade Report(s)

NFL Network‘s Ian Rapoport tweeted Tuesday, “The Dolphins and seven-time Pro Bowl CB Jalen Ramsey are mutually set to explore trade options and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he played elsewhere in 2025, per me and Tom Pelissero. Miami and Ramsey, due $25.1M fully guaranteed this season, could be parting ways.”

NFL.com’s Christian Gonzales added, “General manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel could use the 2025 NFL Draft to bolster their CB ranks — especially if a Ramsey trade comes to fruition. Miami currently holds the No. 13 overall pick and nine other selections to potentially fortify its defense.”

“There is no firm deadline on a potential trade, Rapoport added, but with the draft nine days away, completing a swap ahead of next Thursday makes sense so Miami can use the assets they acquire to bolster the roster ahead of this season.”

Ramsey’s availability only thickens the plot for draft night trading. Some cornerback-needy team will take the plunge, even if Ramsey is on the wrong side of 30.

“If Ramsey’s tenure in Miami indeed comes to an end, the 30-year-old will finish his South Beach stint with 82 tackles, 16 passes defended, six tackles for loss and five interceptions in two seasons,” Gonzales concluded.

Jalen Ramsey’s Resume

Ramsey posted another marvelous season in 2024, banking a sweet 76.9 Pro Football Focus grade with over 1,000 defensive snaps.

On the surface, it’s tempting to glance at a trade request involving a player like Ramsey and assume that he’s “washed,” but such is not the case in this scenario. The man is still an ironclad cornerback and has shown few signs of a performance-related decline as of late.

His price tag, of course, is spendy.

Here’s Ramsey’s NFL resume, with the seven Pro Bowls:

  • Jacksonville Jaguars (2016–2019)
  • Los Angeles Rams (2019–2022)
  • Miami Dolphins (2023–present)

The 33rd Team‘s Ari Meirov tweeted about the budding Ramsey trade sweepstakes: “Last offseason, the Dolphins gave contract extensions and raises to CB Jalen Ramsey and WR Tyreek Hill, while letting homegrown talents like G Robert Hunt and DT Christian Wilkins walk in free agency. A year later, they’re now mutually exploring a trade for Ramsey, while Hill has sent mixed signals about wanting out and has been somewhat of a headache throughout the offseason.”

Why the Vikings Are a Trade Long Shot

When the Ramsey trade fodder hit social media on Tuesday morning, some predictably claimed he’d look good in Vikings purple — and he probably would. But his average cap number over the next three seasons is approximately $29 million per year, and that’s presumably too rich for the Vikings’ blood.

Perhaps if Ramsey were two or three years younger, he’d fit within Minnesota’s Super Bowl contention window, which it has carefully constructed this offseason with the free-agent additions of players like Will Fries, Ryan Kelly, Javon Hargrave, and Jonathan Allen.

In short, Ramsey is likely too expensive for general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.

The Kevin O’Connell Connection, Though

Suppose the Vikings were interested in Ramsey. There’s one smoking gun: Ramsey won a Super Bowl with Kevin O’Connell, the Vikings’ head coach, in 2021, while O’Connell served as Los Angeles’ offensive coordinator.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay with offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell. O’Connell left the Rams in 2022 after a winning a Super Bowl in Los Angeles in 2021 and took over the Minnesota Vikings as head coach.

More than most coaches, O’Connell will know Ramsey rather intimately.

There’s a teensy chance that Minnesota just doesn’t care about Ramsey’s advanced age.

The Trade Price?

Ramsey will turn 31 in October. He will no longer fetch 1st-Round draft capital or anything close to it.

However, the man remains one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks, showcasing a decent 83.2 passer-rating-against in 2024.

If Minnesota shocked the masses and explored Ramsey’s trade sweepstakes, a trade would likely look something like this:

Vikings Get:
Jalen Ramsey
2026 6th-Rounder

Dolphins Get:
Pick No. 97 (Round 3)

Minnesota would then perhaps renegotiate Ramsey’s deal, possibly involving an extension with more immediate guaranteed money.
