Purple Rumor Mill: Comp Pick Situation, Jordan Addison, Kirk Cousins Trade

The Minnesota Vikings rumor mill is in full effect, a normal occurrence with the NFL draft about 2.5 weeks away.
Vikings Rumors: Comp Pick Situation, Jordan Addison, Kirk Cousins Trade
Rumors come from all over the place and run wild on the internet, with almost no rest for the wicked.

So, these are the Vikings’ main rumors for Sunday, April 6th. Yesterday’s can be read here.
Rumor: The Vikings may get three — not just two — compensatory draft picks in 2026 because of this year’s free agency.
Until this week, most fans thought Minnesota would be in line to snag two compensatory draft picks in 2026: one from Sam Darnold’s free-agent trip to Seattle and the other because Daniel Jones left for the Indianapolis Colts.
But thanks to the Star Tribune, onlookers learned a third is possible — if wide receiver Trent Sherfield plays a sizable role in the Denver Broncos’ offense next season.

Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling tweeted Tuesday, “Sherfield’s incentives are quite reachable in 2025. He gets $500K for 40% of the Broncos’ snaps, and another $500K for 30 catches. Essentially, if he becomes WR3, he could earn another $1 million, which would qualify this year.”
Minnesota could grab another 5th-Rounder or so if Sherfield basically morphed into the Broncos’ WR3.
Rumor: Buffalo Bills-themed media believes Jordan Addison could be available via trade.
A Buffalo Bills writer claimed this week that New Orleans Saints wideout Chris Olave and Vikings pass-catcher Jordan Addison could be available via trade.
“Two other names to monitor are New Orleans Saints receiver Chris Olave, who does come with a concerning concussion history, and maybe Minnesota receiver Jordan Addison. The Vikings just gave All-Pro receiver Justin Jefferson a monster new deal and Addison will be extension eligible after the 2025 season,” Matt Parrino noted.
“The Bills and Vikings have pulled off a trade in the past for a big-time receiver and Beane should look into Addison’s availability. From the outside looking in, Addison seems to have played his best ball when Jefferson was out of the lineup in 2023.”

No other source has even remotely hinted that Addison is for sale. He still has three years left on his affordable rookie contract.
“He’s a vertical threat who can win at all three levels. I think he’d be a fun addition to the Bills offense,” Parrino concluded.
Addison would probably play wonderfully in Buffalo, but he’s doing just fine in the Twin Cities.
Rumor: Kirk Cousins will likely be traded by the Falcons before too long, and even Minnesota is a possible landing spot.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter said spoke this week about trade options involving Cousins, “I also believe that the break-the-glass emergency plan for Pittsburgh, for Cleveland, for Minnesota if it doesn’t have a backup, the break-the-glass emergency plan is you can always say ‘I’m gonna trade a draft choice to the Atlanta Falcons for Kirk Cousins.'”

“You can always say ‘We’re gonna take on some of his salary.’ I think Kirk Cousins is sitting there as the break-the-glass emergency option for one of those teams.”
Cousins’ head coach, Raheem Morris, too, said at league meetings that his franchise would explore all options for Cousins, including keeping him as QB2.
Perhaps Cousins could make sense in purple once again, but pairing him with J.J. McCarthy — Vikings past and present — might be a bit awkward.
