Vikings Rumors Circulate on Comp Pick Update, New RB, and Cameron Dantzler

The Minnesota Vikings’ preseason is in the rearview, roster cuts arrive on Tuesday, and the regular season is just about two weeks away.
Vikings rumors buzz on a potential compensatory pick update, the possibility of adding a new RB, and Cameron Dantzler’s surprising return to the NFL.
Meanwhile, the purple rumor is still popping, and it basically never sleeps in the first place.
So, these are Minnesota rumors for Sunday, August 24th, 2025.
Vikings Rumors | Post-Preseason
The week’s final rumors to know for Minnesota.

Rumor: Daniel Jones won the starter’s job in Indianapolis, and that’s great news for the purple team.
Daniel Jones did it. He won the QB1 gig in Indianapolis.
NBC Sports’ Mike Florio wrote Tuesday, “Another day, another Week 1 starting quarterback has been named. According to NFL Media, Daniel Jones has gotten the nod over Anthony Richardson. It’s a stunning move, given the investment the Colts made just two years ago in Richardson. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 draft.”
“Jones, the sixth pick in 2019, was cut by the Giants at his request after he was benched for business reasons, arising from his injury guarantee for 2025. He joined the Vikings’ practice squad. For the postseason, he was elevated to the active roster.”
Jones must play 60.6% of offensive plays or more for Shaine Steichen’s team this season. The Vikings would then be in the driver’s seat for a 4th-Round compensatory pick.

If he falls below that percentage, giving way to Richardson, the Vikings will be on tap for a 5th-Rounder.
In draft-speak, a 4th-Rounder is much more coveted than a 5th-Rounder. Therefore, Vikings fans are Daniel Jones fans in 2025 — at least for 11 games. He’s off to a good start by winning the QB1 gig.
Rumor: Brian Robinson, a Washington Commanders running back on the trade block, would be a smart fit for the Vikings.
Robinson slid onto the trade block in the last week or so, and the Vikings were allegedly a smart landing spot for him.
NFL writer Logan Ulrich provided details this week: “The Vikings have already been among the most active teams at the running back position this offseason, re-signing RB Aaron Jones to a major extension and swinging a trade for RB Jordan Mason. That might suggest that they’ve used all their ammo at the position. However, the team clearly wants to emphasize the run more in 2025 to help ease the transition to first-year starting QB J.J. McCarthy.”
“The No. 3 running back is a major question mark, with Minnesota seemingly looking for any alternative to Ty Chandler. The No. 3 RB might not seem like a high priority, but given Jones’ age, Mason’s injury history and Minnesota’s goals, adding an experienced upgrade like Robinson would make some sense, particularly if the Vikings can figure out a way not to pay full freight.”

The idea was righteous, but Robinson ultimately became a San Francisco 49er on Friday, traded by the Commanders for a 6th-round pick. Robinson will now support Christian McCaffrey in 2025.
Rumor: Cameron Dantzler is back in the NFL
Dantzler is currently getting a quick 53-man roster look from the Miami Dolphins.
Orlando Sentinel’s David Furones wrote Tuesday, “New competition is being brought into the Miami Dolphins’ quest to find a formidable cornerbacks unit for the 2025 season in the final week before NFL active rosters are cut to 53 players.”
“The Miami Dolphins signed cornerback Cameron Dantzler, the team announced Tuesday. Dantzler, who turns 27 Sept. 3, a third-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2020, has appeared in 37 career games with 26 starts in three seasons with the Vikings (2020-22).”

Dantzler has campaigned for a roster spot somewhere in the league all offseason, and it came true in late August. Cornerback injuries currently beset the Dolphins. Dantzler may have a sneaky shot at making the backend of Miami’s depth chart.
Once upon a time, Dantzler was the one big hope for the Vikings’ cornerback room post-Xavier Rhodes.
