Former Vikings Playmaker Cut by Rams

The up-and-down road continues for ex-Minnesota Vikings tight end Nick Muse after the Los Angeles Rams cut ties on Tuesday. Muse will now hit the open market and hope for his next practice squad assignment.
A former Vikings playmaker was cut by the Rams, opening possible waiver intrigue as teams reassess tight end depth late in the season.
Minnesota found Muse in the infamous 2022 NFL Draft, and the once-promising tight end has encountered trouble finding staying power in the pros.
One-Time Vikings TE Nick Muse Dropped by Rams
It’s back to the drawing board for the South Carolina alumnus.

Rams Say Goodbye to Muse
That’s a wrap, at least for now, for Muse in Tinseltown.
RamsWire‘s Tyler Greenwalt wrote Tuesday, “The Los Angeles Rams made two small moves on Tuesday: The team waived outside linebacker Nick Hampton and cut tight end Nick Muse from the practice squad. Muse, 27, joined the Rams practice squad in the middle of November.”
“He wasn’t promoted to the active roster over the past month and hasn’t played a regular-season snap since 2024. It’s unclear if either move signals a corresponding transaction for the Rams, but the team has yet to activate receiver Tutu Atwell off injured reserve despite opening up his 21-day practice window before Week 13.”
Muse is unlikely to be claimed via waivers and would then hit open free agency, a spot he knows well.
Different Ex-Vikings Ironically Stole Muse’s Spot
Why did Muse get his marching orders out of Hollywood? Well, the Rams employ Colby Parkinson, Davis Allen, and rookie Terrance Ferguson at tight end. Muse isn’t needed, not even for depth.
But there’s an ironic little twist at play: Los Angeles signed Nick Vannett from the Vikings’ practice squad two weeks ago, and that move alone drove Muse to the waiver wire. In fact, Vannett currently lives on Los Angeles’ active roster. Viking on Viking violence.
So, head coach Sean McVay will roll into the postseason next month with Parkinson, Allen, Ferguson, and Vannett at tight end. The typical TE1, Tyler Higbee, is on injured reserve.
Muse with the Vikings
Muse logged 19 offensive snaps across 16 games for Minnesota in three seasons, plus 184 on special teams. His busiest stretch came as a rookie in 2022, when he appeared in 10 games before bouncing between the practice squad and the active roster.
His career stat line remains one catch for 22 yards, which came in 2023.
General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah drafted Muse in Round 7 of the 2022 class, a year that has aged poorly for Minnesota. The 6’5″, 252-pound tight end hails from North Carolina. His brother, Tanner, has been an NFL journeyman since 2020, most recently landing with Jacksonville in 2024.
Overall NFL Bio
Muse has been on a whirlwind circuit of lockers and logos — four organizations in 11 months, a crash course in how thin the NFL margin really is. Philadelphia grabbed him off Minnesota’s practice squad on January 22, 2025. He never saw a snap for the Eagles, but still left with a Super Bowl ring. Weeks later, he signed a futures deal that fizzled before training camp settled. By August cutdowns, he was back hunting for work.

Arizona called next, adding him on October 8. By the end of the month, he was back in free agency. Los Angeles became the next destination.
Vikings to Eagles to Cardinals to Rams, all inside a calendar year — a pinball run for the former Gamecock who entered the league in 2022. Muse has logged 16 career games and one 22-yard reception, yet earned more roster shots than most players with that résumé ever do.
At South Carolina, he totaled 805 yards across 31 games from 2019 to 2021. Minnesota gave him his first real NFL window, elevating him three times late in 2024. They also released him three times. That’s the grind — always one roster move away from opportunity, and one move away from the exit door.
Muse did not take a snap this year with the Rams.
The Best Team in the NFL
In other Rams news, NFL.com called Los Angeles the best team in the NFL this week, with one month to go before the postseason.

Eric Edholm defended the ranking: “A week after their first loss since early October, the Rams racked up season highs in points (45) and yards from scrimmage (530) in a road beatdown of the Cardinals. Arizona played tough early but collapsed under the onslaught of Los Angeles’ persistent and balanced attack. Right now, the Kyren Williams-Blake Corum backfield combo looks like a real winner.”
“The Rams nearly ran for as many yards (249) as they threw for (281) on Sunday, and their only negative plays on offense came on a few annoying penalties. Other than that, they were dominant, rewarding my faith in them — keeping them in the No. 1 spot — after the Week 13 defeat at Carolina. Tough games lie ahead against the Lions and Seahawks, the latter of which likely will decide the NFC West and could seal the top seed for the Rams.”
Los Angeles also leads the way per Super Bowl odds with a +390 moneyline.
