The internet is never bashful about unloading bad and strange Minnesota Vikings-themed takes.

Every Sunday, we publish the wildest, weirdest, and most false Vikings takes that the internet has to offer. Here’s this week’s.

There is enough per week for VikingsTerritory to feature a nopedy nopes section — theories and predictions that are just too mind-boggling.

This is the May 25th edition.

The Nopedy Nope: J.J. McCarthy will be waived soon.

A website called Last Word on Sports published an article this week titled: Shocking: Vikings Expected to Cut 2024 Draft Pick.

Minnesota quarterback J.J. McCarthy in August 2024 at U.S. Bank Stadium versus the Las Vegas Raiders, his first-ever preseason game. McCarthy tore his meniscus during the contest and missed his entire rookie season. He returned during the 2025 offseason and will assume the QB1 job. Minnesota selected McCarthy with the 10th overall pick in 2024.

And, yes, that referred to J.J. McCarthy.

LWOS’ Anthony Palacios wrote, “Despite letting former quarterback Sam Darold hit the free agent market, the Minnesota Vikings will likely cut JJ McCarthy before the 2025 regular season. One NFL analyst believes the Vikings are on the verge of releasing the former draft pick after missing the entire campaign last year.”

“It’ll be interesting to see what the team will do, but they need a solid quarterback, as they saw Darnold bring them to limits they’ve never seen in a bridge signal-caller. The pressure is on the Vikings this year to see what they will do, and even though the team may not move on immediately, it’s still possible that it’s coming sooner rather than later.”

The Vikings even remotely entertaining the waiver of McCarthy is the worst take of the team’s offseason and perhaps of the last decade. Almost seems like satire. But it’s not.

Palacios added, “Originally selected as a No. 10 pick, the former Michigan product led the Wolverines to an undefeated season in 2022, leading them to a national championship. The quarterback finished his college career with just one loss, so it’s clear that it was just bad timing that he had his season-ending injury.”

“Typically, an NFL team needs at least two full seasons to decide if they will keep the current quarterback on their roster. This is what they’ve yet to see from McCarthy, and it will be very surprising if the Vikings move on earlier than anticipated. If they undergo a losing season this year, then expect these three teams to push for a possible trade even before the season.”

Terrible.

Verdict: Nopedy Nope.

The Nopedy Nope: Aaron Rodgers is still waiting on something to happen with the Vikings so he can sign in Minnesota.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reopened the Rodgers rumor mill this week on The Dan Patrick Show.

“There’s some teams I’ve talked to, they are still kind of wondering, like, is he just waiting out the Vikings, you know? Because the Vikings would be an ideal scenario, one of the best play callers in the league in head coach Kevin O’Connell, nine dome games, you’re guaranteed nine dome games per year,” Fowler told Patrick.

“There’s some element of that, but I checked in with the Vikings, I still don’t expect that. They’re moving forward with J.J. McCarthy. So he really has no other option, other than Pittsburgh or retiring.”

Rodgers will not sign with the Vikings unless he remains unemployed and J.J. McCarthy succumbs to another injury.

Verdict: Nopedy Nope.

The Nopedy Nope: Jordan Addison is not a Top 32 wide receiver in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus.

PFF’s Trevor Sikkema listed the NFL’s 32 best wideouts this week, and Addison’s name was not mentioned whatsoever.

Sikkema described his criteria: “After rolling out our quarterback rankings, top three players on every team, top 25 under 25 and each team’s top players under 25, wide receivers are the focus in the latest installment of PFF’s 2025 NFL preview series. Wide receiver remains one of the most dynamic and scheme-shaping roles in the modern game.”

“From versatile slot threats to dominant outside weapons, the league’s best receivers bring unique skill sets that demand defensive attention and elevate quarterback play. Using a combination of advanced data, film evaluation and scheme analysis, this list highlights the top 32 wide receivers entering the 2025 NFL season.”

These are Addison’s statistics from the last two years.

Jordan Addison,
NFL Rankings,
Since 2023:

Touchdowns: 4th
Receiving Yards: 26th
Receptions: 28th
Targets: 29th

Addison is a Top 32 wideout. The PFF rankings got it wrong.

Verdict: Nopedy Nope on PFF’s rankings.
