Sweet Trade Target Dances into Vikings Orbit

The Minnesota Vikings typically find a way to fire off a trade or two every summer with general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in charge.
Plenty of players could join the Vikings via trade, and Trevon Diggs is evidently a theorized option.
Last year, Adofo-Mensah shipped cornerback Andrew Booth to the Dallas Cowboys for fellow CB Nahshon Wright. The deal didn’t amount to much, but Adofo-Mensah pulled the trigger nevertheless.
Now, with trades easier to finagle after June 1st, when salary cap restraints loosen, a different — better — Cowboys cornerback could be attainable: Trevon Diggs.
Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs Theorized as Trade Target
Bleacher Report published an article this week detailing the league’s top trade targets. As a first-of-its-kind name-drop, Diggs made the cut.

Brent Sobleski explained, “Both cornerback Trevon Diggs and the Dallas Cowboys may be better off without each other. The previous sentence may come across as counterintuitive considering how good Diggs has been when he’s healthy. However, he hasn’t been healthy over the last two seasons.”
“Diggs has endured back-to-back season-ending injuries to the same knee, which resulted in 13 total appearances. He’s only 26 years old and could bounce back. But a feeling exists that the Cowboys might not get the return the organization expected after signing the former first-team All-Pro (2021) to a five-year, $97 million contract extension. The deal still has four years remaining including the upcoming campaign. Although, the Cowboys can save nearly $9.7 million with post-June 1 trade, according to Over The Cap.”
If Minnesota pulled off the Diggs deal, he’d start instantly next to Byron Murphy Jr. on Sundays.
Sobleski added, “Dallas has created depth at cornerback this offseason after dealing with Diggs’ injuries the last two years. First, the Cowboys traded for former first-round pick Kaiir Elam, then drafted East Carolina’s Shavon Revel Jr. in this year’s third round. The team’s new duo will join DaRon Bland and Israel Mukuamu, who can cover the slot after Jourdan Lewis’ free-agent departure.”
“Another franchise in search of cornerback help should take a flier on Diggs, even with his recent injury history, because a healthy version is one of the game’s biggest defensive playmakers. Concurrently, a trade allows Cowboys to shift Diggs’ contract toward re-signing Bland, who is a free agent after the 2025 campaign, or include it as part of the mega-contract extension that Micah Parsons will inevitably sign.”
Sobleski suggested that Diggs could be obtained for a 6th-Round pick, if that can be believed.
BR Compensation Price for Diggs Probably Too Low
A 6th-Round pick for Diggs, outlined by Sobleski, seems outlandishly too low. Two years ago, Diggs inked a five-year, $97 million extension in Dallas, and perhaps that mammoth contract drives down his value, according to Sobleski.

Otherwise, Diggs would probably fetch a 4th-Rounder or so, at worst, per performance.
Here’s Diggs’ Pro Football Focus resume to date:
2024: 56.6
2023: 80.7
2022: 67.6
2021: 58.5
2020: 62.7
Cowboys’ Finances Could Be Tight
Why would the Cowboys trade Diggs? Simple — there may not be enough money to go around.
Quarterback Dak Prescott already makes megabucks. So does wideout CeeDee Lamb. Soon, the Cowboys must hand linebacker Micah Parsons an extension resembling quarterback money. Diggs’ CB teammate, Daron Bland, needs a new deal. And Dallas just traded for wide receiver George Pickens, who’s nearing an extension.

In short, Diggs could be the odd man out and thus on the trade block.
Moreover, rookie Shavon Revel Jr. from East Carolina could take his spot on the depth chart.
Possible MIN CB Group with Diggs
If the purple team pulled off the Diggs trade, the CB room could resemble this in 2025:
- Byron Murphy Jr.
- Trevon Diggs
- Isaiah Rodgers
- Mekhi Blackmon
- Jeff Okudah
- Dwight McGlothern
- Ambry Thomas
And you know what? That might just work.
The Stefon Diggs Connection
A lesser important angle, Diggs’ brother, Stefon, played for Minnesota from 2015 to 2019. The experience mainly netted memorable dividends.

Another Diggs venturing to the Twin Cities would have the same name-brand familiarity.
Other CB Targets if Not Diggs
Suppose Adofo-Mensah isn’t finished adding cornerback talent this offseason. If Diggs is not for sale, these players could cross Minnesota’s radar:
- Jaire Alexander (Status Unknown)
- Rasul Douglas (Free Agency)
- Shaquill Griffin (Free Agency)
- Mike Hilton (Free Agency)
- Jack Jones (Free Agency)
- Greg Newsome II (Trade)
- Jalen Ramsey (Trade)
- Asante Samuel Jr. (Free Agent)
- Tariq Woolen (Trade)
Diggs will turn 27 in September — smack dab in the middle of his prime.
