The Minnesota Vikings will finalize a 53-man roster on Tuesday, August 26th, by 3:00 PM CST, and the party has already begun.

Stay tuned in with every Vikings roster cut in 2025. Follow along as Minnesota trims the roster, makes tough calls, and finalizes its 53-man depth chart.

Sportsbooks predict the purple team will finish around 9-8 or 10-7 this season after ending last year with an unexpected 14-3 mark.

To achieve a winning season, the club will need the best 53-man combination available, so summer roster cuts are vital.

Here’s the live tracker.

Released:

  • Zack Bailey (OL)
  • Travis Bell (DT)
  • Silas Bolden (WR)
  • Logan Brown (OT)
  • Keenan Garber (CB)
  • Cam Gill (OLB)
  • Robert Lewis (WR)
  • Mishael Powell (S)
  • Brett Rypien (QB)
  • Reddy Steward (CB)
  • Tre Stewart (RB)

Silas Bolden’s waiver is semi-noteworthy because, back in June or so, he was a deep sleeper among fans to make the active roster. No such luck.

And our Janik Eckardt noted on Rypien’s release: “As the emergency quarterback behind Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens, Rypien didn’t see the field but functioned as a coach in the room. Last year, he lit up the preseason as a member of the Chicago Bears, but his performances in this year’s exhibitions were underwhelming. He completed 15 of 29 passes for 151 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception.”

“Rypien is one of those quarterbacks who lack physical tools, but their football IQ allows them to have a decent career as a journeyman backup, and a future in coaching is certainly an option. At 29, he’s now looking for a new job. Potentially, the franchise wants to keep him around and stash him on the practice squad.”

The 29-year-old will likely latch onto a new team as QB3 or a practice squad option.

Eckardt added, “Rypien has played in ten career games with four starts. His statistics show 950 passing yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He has spent time with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted player out of Boise State, as well as the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and Minnesota Vikings.”

“Rookie Brosmer outplayed him, especially in the final preseason contest in which the two alternated quarters to have comparable supporting casts. The younger counterpart showed that he has a grasp on the offense while also displaying nice touch and decision-making.”

Released:

  • Brian Asamoah (LB)

Asmoah’s waiver became noteworthy, as only two 2022 draftees remained in the purple roster orbit: Jalen Nailor and Ty Chandler.

The Vikings Age‘s Luke Norris wrote about Asamoah’s departure: “Taken by the Vikings in the third round of the 2022 draft, which has turned out to be a monumental failure overall for Minnesota, Asamoah showed some flashes as a rookie, earning a solid 78.8 overall PFF grade after notching 17 total tackles, which sadly turned out to be a career-high, as everything went downhill from there.”

“After taking 121 defensive snaps in his first season, the Oklahoma alum took just 36 in 2023 and 34 in 2024. And in that limited action, things didn’t go overly well, as he earned a 38.3 overall grade in ’23, ranking 170th among 179 eligible linebackers, and a 29.2 overall grade this past year, ranking 187th out of 189.”

Asmaoah actually played against the Vikings in Tennessee’s preseason win on Friday night.

“He spent far more time on special teams the past two years, logging a combined 515 snaps in various roles. Along with his overall poor play the last couple of seasons, Asamoah certainly didn’t do himself any favors earlier this month when he got into it with offensive lineman Will Fries,” Norris continued.

“The scuffle started after Asamoah apparently hit running back Aaron Jones a little too aggressively. Fries took exception and subsequently shoved Asamoah, who responded with a punch. Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell has been fairly strict on fighting in the past. So, again, while the punch likely isn’t the only reason Asamoah was waived, it undoubtedly didn’t help him. But what’s done is done, and Asamoah now has to hope he can find a fresh start with the Titans.”

Minnesota’s first regular season game occurs on September 8th at the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
