Vikings CB Lands with Seahawks

Move over, Sam Darnold. Ex-Minnesota Vikings cornerback Shaquill Griffin is on his way.
Former Vikings cornerback Shaquill Griffin has found a new team, taking his talents to the Seattle Seahawks for 2025.
A popular offseason theory that has suggested Griffin could return to Minnesota will not materialize, at least not this summer, as Griffin has chosen the Seattle Seahawks as his next employer.
Griffin will take his toolkit back to the NFC West.
It’s the Seahawks after All for Shaquill Griffin
The deal is done for Griffin in Seattle.

NBC Sports’ Charean Williams wrote Wednesday, “Free agent cornerback Shaquill Griffin is returning to Seattle. Griffin and the Seahawks began talking about a reunion six weeks ago, and it has finally happened, with Griffin agreeing to terms Wednesday, Jordan Schultz reports. Griffin, 29, initially joined the Seahawks as a third-round pick in 2017.”
“He played his first four seasons with the club, reaching the only Pro Bowl of his career with the Seahawks in 2019. He’s also spent time with Jacksonville, Houston, Carolina, and most recently, Minnesota. Griffin appeared in all 17 games with three starts for the Vikings in 2024, recording two interceptions and six passes defended.”
Seattle was an oft-rumored destination for Griffin in the last couple of months, along with the Las Vegas Raiders because of the Pete Carroll connection, and the veteran cornerback made the rumor come true. He’s a Seahawk.
Shaquill Griffin Goes Home after 5 Years Away
Griffin is back with the Seahawks, the team that drafted him in Round 3, adding depth to Mike Macdonald’s defense.
A Reunion for Griffin
This is a sweet reunion for Griffin. Seattle pulled him out of Round 3 eight years ago, a spot he stayed for the duration of his rookie contract, even reaching the Pro Bowl in 2019. The Seahawks also notably drafted Griffin’s brother, Shaquem, during the same event.

While Griffin could still play for a different NFL team in 2026, Wednesday’s signing must feel like a full-circle moment for the soon-to-be 30-year-old.
The Seahawks’ CBs for 2025
With the Griffin addition, here’s Seattle’s cornerback conglomeration for this season:
- Devon Witherspoon
- Tariq Woolen
- Josh Jobe
- Shaquill Griffin
- Damarion Williams
- Nehemiah Pritchett
- Shemar Jean-Charles
- JT Woods
- Tyler Hall
- Isas Waxter
- Zy Alexander
Griffin is virtually guaranteed to make the regular season roster with that group.
VikingsTerritory’s Trade Theory Soars
Since the Vikings selected no cornerbacks with high-round capital two months ago, and because Tariq Woolen has not received a contract extension, VikingsTerritory has publicly endorsed a trade for Woolen, probably involving a 3rd- or 4th-Round pick.

Griffin to Seattle accelerates the theory.
Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores enjoys big, burly corners. Woolen is that. Seattle benched Woolen during a game last season, and it upset him. And Minnesota could use one more starter at CB.
Our endorsement remains intact, particularly as Woolen is trending to hit the free-agent market next March. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah should pull the trigger now via trade and extend the man for three or four years.
Seahawks-Themed Media’s Reaction to Shaquill Griffin’s Return
FieldGulls.com sounded pretty stoked about the reunion. Patrick Hood from that site wrote, “The 29-year-old cornerback had been linked to Seattle throughout the off-season, meeting with the organization back in April following one season with the Minnesota Vikings. Earlier this month, Griffin also visited with his old coach, Pete Carroll, over in Las Vegas. Griffin was selected by the Seahawks in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, earning a Pro Bowl alternate selection in 2019.”
“In four seasons with Seattle, Griffin had six interceptions and defended 48 passes. Following the 2020 season, Griffin signed a three-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, playing two seasons there before being released in early 2023. He then began 2023 with the Texans, playing 10 games there before being traded to the Panthers.”

Vikings fans will remember Griffin in a positive light and would welcome a second act if the situation ever presented itself.
Hood continued, “Griffin most recently played for the Vikings, notching two interceptions and defending six passes over 17 games. After several years away from the Pacific Northwest, the Seahawks will be getting a more seasoned Griffin, one who will be able to provide a valuable veteran presence at the cornerback position.”
“Seattle had been looking for cornerback depth all offseason following the departures of Tre Brown and Artie Burns, and it looks like the choice is a familiar face. Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon are the top two corners on the team, with Josh Jobe re-signing after a solid stint as a starter midway through last year. Welcome back to Seattle, Shaquill!”
The Vikings play against Griffin’s Seahawks in Seattle on November 30th.
