Seahawks Sign Former Vikings RB

Four days before Seattle hosts the Minnesota Vikings at Lumen Field, the Seahawks have signed running back Cam Akers, who played for the purple team as recently as a week ago.
The Seahawks have signed a former Vikings running back, adding backfield depth while giving the ex-Viking a fresh shot at snaps.
Indeed, Akers joins the enemy on the doorstep of the teams’ clash in Week 13. Convenient timing.
Cam Akers to Seahawks ahead of Game Against Vikings
A quick reemergence for Akers.

Seahawks Onboard Akers to Active Roster
Akers to Seattle is really happening. NBC Sports‘ Josh Alper wrote Wednesday, “Veteran running back Cam Akers has resurfaced in Seattle. The Seahawks announced Akers’ signing as part of a series of roster moves on Wednesday. Akers appeared in three games for the Vikings earlier this season and has made 56 appearances with the Vikings, Texans and Rams.”
“They also confirmed that safety Quandre Diggs has signed to the practice squad. Diggs began his NFL career with the Seahawks. Cornerback Shaquill Griffin and linebacker Patrick O’Connell have been signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.’
It’s worth noting, too, that Griffin also played for the 2024 Vikings, so Seattle is truly circling the wagons.
The Seahawks’ New RB Room
One might think that because Seattle signed Akers, the Seahawks’ running backs must be banged up, right? Nope. It’s a “just because” transaction. Generally speaking, Seattle’s most productive tailbacks, Kenneth Walker II and Zach Charbonnet, are healthy.
Here’s the RB room in Seattle:
- Kenneth Walker III
- Zach Charbonnet
- George Holani
- Cam Akers
- Velus Jones Jr. (Practice Squad)
- Jacardia Wright (Injured Reserve)
- Kenny McIntosh (Injured Reserve)
The Seahawks don’t really need Akers, but here we are.
Akers’ Career Bio
A once-promising 2nd-Round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 2020, Akers has bounced around the league in recent years. He played for Minnesota this season, seeing action on eight offensive snaps and seven special teams plays.

Here’s his NFL resume, with the Seattle update:
- Los Angeles Rams (2020โ2023)
- Minnesota Vikings (2023)
- Houston Texans (2024)
- Minnesota Vikings (2024)
- New Orleans Saints (2025)
- Minnesota Vikings (2025)
- Seattle Seahawks (2025โpresent)
The 26-year-old has logged 2,044 rushing yards in his career on 507 carries (4.0 yds/per), with 17 total touchdowns in six seasons. Akers has also caught 52 passes for 388 receiving yards. He’s notably battled back from two Achilles’ tears, which is somewhat rare.
In Seattle, Akers may not get any touches this week. Why? Well, Akers is on deck as the Seahawks’ RB4, and those players rarely see action sans other players’ injuries. If the aforementioned Holani is banged up, Akers would be the next man up at RB3.
Week 4 Moment Still Fresh
Although Akers played just 15 total snaps for the 2025 Vikings, one play turned heads.
Akers threw a touchdown pass in Week 5 to tight end Josh Oliver. Minnesota toppled Cleveland that week in London, and Akers’ toss was one of the game’s major highlights.
After this transaction โ that turned out to be crucial to Minnesota’s London dub โ Akers reverted to the practice squad and was not heard from thereafter.
Then, last week, Minnesota activated center Ryan Kelly from injured reserve, re-signed cornerback Dwight McGlothern, and kicked Akers to the curb.
It’s the Seahawks’ turn now for the Akers experience.
Seattle Media on Akers
SeattleSports.com‘s Brent Stecker wrote Wednesday, “Akers may be a familiar name to Seattle fans. He was a second-round NFL Draft pick by one of the Seahawks’ division rivals, the Los Angeles Rams, out of Florida State in 2020. Akers had a pair of strong seasons for the Rams early in his career.”
“He rushed for 625 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games (five starts) as a rookie in 2020, and had a career-high 786 yards and seven TDs in 15 games (nine starts) in 2022. The 5-foot-10, 217-pound Akers could give the Seahawks help in the passing game. He has 52 career receptions for 388 yards and four touchdowns.”

Without Akers, Minnesota will continue to lean on Zavier Scott as the RB3.
“The 26-year-old Akers perhaps brings some added value to scouting for Seattle as it prepares to play his most recent former team, the Vikings, at 1:05 p.m. Sunday at Lumen Field. Akers, who has been up and down on the Vikings practice squad this year, was released by the team on Saturday. He last played for Minnesota on Oct. 5,” Stecker added.
“The reported addition of Akers probably isn’t a great sign about the health of third-string running back George Holani, who suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of last Sunday’s Seahawks win at Tennessee.”
Seattle is favored to stomp Minnesota by 11 or 12 points this weekend.
