Week 14 was an impressive showing for the Minnesota Vikings as they shut out the Washington Commanders, 31-0.

Now, the Vikings head on the road to face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15 as both teams try to make a final fight for a playoff spot this season. Here is a look at what Minnesota Vikings fans need to know heading into that matchup.

The Cowboys and Vikings have a storied history, and Sunday will be their 35th time facing off. During those first 34 games, which include seven meetings, Dallas has led the series with a record of 19-15 against Minnesota.

Dallas wasn’t always the leader of this matchup though. Minnesota won seven of the eight games between these two teams from 1998-2010, but since then, the Cowboys have won five of the past six meetings between the two teams, including the most recent game in 2022 when Dallas dominated the Vikings to a 40-3 final.

Cowboys Spotlight Player: WR George Pickens

On the surface, George Pickens’ numbers this season have been very good. However, despite how talented the wide receiver is, he has had trouble with consistency. Part of the reason behind that seemingly has boiled down to effort and focus.

Regardless, when Pickens is on his A-game, the Cowboys usually have a good result coming their way. Pickens has recorded 80+ receiving yards six times this season. Dallas is 4-1-1 in those games, and 2-5 when he records fewer than 80 receiving yards.

The past month of football has been a great example of this. In three games against the Raiders, Eagles, and Chiefs, Pickens recorded 24 receptions for 378 yards and two touchdowns. Dallas went 3-0 in those games. Then, he was held to just five receptions for 37 yards against the Lions. The Vikings will need to find a way to replicate that showing this weekend.

Vikings Spotlight Player: RB Aaron Jones

It hasn’t been the smoothest year for Aaron Jones, but the Dallas Cowboys are a team that he has had the number of throughout his career. In three games against Dallas, Jones has recorded 62 carries for 370 yards (5.97 yards per carry) and six touchdowns. He’s added 10 receptions for 102 yards on top of that rushing total.

Dallas has seen some significant improvement on their defensive front since adding Quinnen Williams to the mix. That being said, they’ve gotten beat up a bit by the Chiefs and Lions on the ground over the past two weeks.

We’ll see if Jones can keep his hot streak against Dallas going, and he’ll need to if the Vikings are going to pull off an upset win on Sunday night.
