In addition to losing the NFC North and No. 1 overall seed throughout the postseason, the Minnesota Vikings allegedly encountered another misfortune at Detroit on Sunday night — opposing fans’ treatment of players’ wives.

Vikings Players’ Wives Reportedly Mistreated in Detroit

Dalton Risner’s wife, Whitney, led the charge this week, detailing rude behavior from Lions fans as she watched her husband’s team lose at Ford Field.

“Little did I know that I would be heckled, touched, and called names at last night’s game by Detroit Fans. (Simply for being a Vikings fan),” she posted on social media.

Whitney Risner wasn’t alone, either.

Blake Cashman’s wife, Taylor, added in response to a Lions fan on TikTok who claimed the fan base was not guilty: “Wishing injuries on the opposing team’s players ain’t the vibe, babe.”

Vikings fans arrived in Detroit thanks to a special perk from the ownership family, the Wilfs. Mark and Zygi Wilf purchased over 1,000 tickets at market value — prices per ticket climbed over the $1,000 mark in the lower level — for $2 million and sold them to Vikings season ticketholders at face value.

VikingsTerritory told the ticket situation to one Lions fan before the game, and she replied that it “made her sick to her stomach” that purple fans could “get in for that cheap.”

Ultimately, the Lions won the game, and in fact, have toppled Minnesota five straight times. At the end of the game, a few Lions fans cared about the presence of Vikings fans in their building. As they exited, many mocked Vikings fans with their rendition of a SKOL chant.

Some defended the Lions fan’s antics on X, formerly Twitter. “Go to literally every single division rivals stadium and you’ll find these fans in every single one of them,” @raldi616 tweeted about the wife heckling.

Fan Greg Lamb didn’t believe it because it didn’t happen in his section: “Well, I was at the game. There were 4 Vikings fans within 10 seats of me. They were treated with absolute respect and dignity. Sorry if someone had a bad experience. Two were almost directly behind me. Everyone treated them well.”

@cblue2 claimed the whole thing was made up: “Can’t lose gracefully, so now they’re resorting to making things up? Wow. Every fan base has a few assholes, like the Vikings fans wishing more injuries on our team, for instance, but this is ridiculous. Lions fans are great.”

@bestballjunkie added, “Another fake story from you guys.”

If the Eagles beat the Packers and the Buccaneers beat the Commanders, the Vikings will play the Lions at Ford Field in the Divisional Round with a win at the Rams.
