4 Teams: Where Brian Flores Could Land as HC
Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores is in the mix for a head coaching job during the 2025 carousel.
4 Teams: Where Brian Flores Could Land as HC
He told ESPN’s Schefter in November he would love to head coach again, given “the right opportunity.” He wants to be selective.
“Now, I may get some resistance from my kids, who are having a great time here in Minnesota. They’re having a fantastic time here just with school, and basketball, and football, and friendships and things like that. I think I’d get a little resistance, but for me personally, it’s something that I’d love to do again. With that said, Minnesota has been a great spot for me. My family, we’re really enjoying it,” Flores said about two months ago.
His requirement for the right opportunity might narrow the list, so consider these the four likeliest landing spots for Flores if he takes a head coach job in 2025. They’re ranked in ascending order (No. 1 = top Flores fit).
4. Dallas Cowboys
No one is too sure if Mike McCarthy will be back in 2025. His contract expired after the 2024 season for himself and his entire coaching staff. Dallas should render a McCarthy verdict soon.
The Cowboys have the franchise quarterback, franchise wide receiver, and franchise defender. Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons.
In Dallas, Flores would have the infrastructure to thrive, which may quench his “right opportunity” formula. It’s all about whether he’ll want to coexist with Jerry Jones.
3. New York Jets
ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted Monday, “Jets have requested head coaching interviews with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores and QB coach Josh McCown, per sources.”
So, in theory, this one is already in motion. However, if Flores adheres to his choosy mindset, the Jets might be the last NFL team a prospective head coach would pick for stability.
Still, Flores is from Brooklyn.
2. Chicago Bears
Avert your eyes.
Flores embodies the tough guy image the Bears like to exalt — you know, the kind previous head coach Matt Eberflus did not.
Think of it this way — Flores just seems like the kind of guy Chicago would lift up as its skipper.
Schefter, meanwhile, also tweeted Monday, “Bears requested head coaching interviews with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores and Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, per source.”
Minnesota’s foe already wants a piece of Flores, at least via interview.
1. New England Patriots
Somewhat shockingly, the Patriots fired first-year head coach Jerod Mayo on Black Monday. He’s gone.
Former Tennessee Titans skipper Mike Vrabel is evidently the frontrunner to earn the job, but Flores spent 14 seasons in New England. Everyone within the organization — from head to toe — has to know what Flores is all about.
Flores actually almost doubled Vrabel’s time in New England as a player, though Flores was always a coach and scout. If New England wants a homegrown commodity not named Vrabel, Flores can be the guy.
However, the Patriots had not requested a Flores interview at the time of this article’s publication.
