The Minnesota Vikings are coming off another frustrating loss, this time against the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles.

The Vikings had chance after chance to get back into that game, but they simply could not get it done, and part of that blame falls on a sloppy performance by the offense. With Week 7 now in the books, here is a look at where that Minnesota Vikings offense ranks across the NFL.

Total Offense

  • Points per Game: 24.2 (15th)
  • Total Yards per Game: 320.7 (20th)
  • Plays per Game: 58.8 (24th)
  • Yards per Play: 5.4 (17th)
  • First Downs per Game: 18.3 (22nd)
  • Turnovers per Game: 18.3 (32nd)
  • Third Down Conversion Percentage: 34.2% (26th)
  • Fourth Down Conversion Percentage: 71.4% (T-7th)
  • Red Zone TD Percentage: 52.4% (20th)
  • Overall PFF Grade: 66.2 (23rd)
  • EPA/Play: -0,.05 (27th)

The glaring red flag from the Minnesota Vikings through seven weeks continues to be the turnovers. That per game average rose again this weekend as Carson Wentz threw a pair of interceptions that dug the Vikings into a hole that they never found a way to get out of. They also saw their red zone touchdown percentage tank after reaching the end zone just once on six red zone possessions.

Passing Offense

  • Completions per Game: 20.3 (T-21st)
  • Pass Attempts per Game: 31.3 (T-19th)
  • Passing Yards per Game: 214.8 (17th)
  • Net Yards per Pass Attempt: 6.1 (18th)

  • Receiving PFF Grade: 72.6 (T-12th)
  • EPA/Pass: -0.05 (20th)

Rushing Offense

  • Carries per Game: 23.7 (T-27th)
  • Rushing Yards per Game: 103.8 (20th)
  • Yards per Carry: 4.4 (17th)
  • Rushing TDs per Game: 0.83 (18th)
  • Fumbles Lost per Game: 0.67 (25th)
  • Rushing PFF Grade: 69.4 (23rd)
  • Run Blocking PFF Grade: 57.0 (22nd)
  • EPA/Run: -0/10 (26th)

This Vikings offense has been almost unrecognizable compared to the efficient unit that consistently moved up and down the field. The only thing that is reminiscent of the Vikings is a continued lack of trust in the running game; a theme that has existed since Kevin O’Connell’s arrival in Minnesota. We’ll see if J.J. McCarthy returns to the field this week and forces O’Connell to utilize that running game more.
