Jeff Okudah Updates Are Getting Scary

Over the course of his career, Jeff Okudah has missed a substantial amount of time due to injury. The former first-round pick has been a bust because he has failed to stay on the field, and he has struggled to show competence when between the lines. Minnesota banked on him being their third corner this season, and that would be a big ask for a room already lacking depth.

Jeff Okudah remains out with a concussion for the Minnesota Vikings, and his injury could be both troublesome for him and the team.

Unfortunately, both downfalls have bitten Okudah. He hasn’t been good when healthy, and he hasn’t been healthy either. Although Okudah hasn’t suffered significant muscle or bone injuries, what has kept him out of games impacts his brain.

Jeff Okudah Battles 2nd Concussion of 2025

Earlier this season, Okudah suffered a concussion and missed the following game. Against the Los Angeles Chargers last Thursday night, Okudah sustained another concussion. Now nearly a week removed from that, and still with time before getting back into game action, he remains sidelined from practice.

The Minnesota Vikings were back on the practice field at TCO Performance Center on Wednesday, but Okudah was officially a DNP. That certainly puts his status in question for Sunday, and, more importantly, it begs the question of what his true availability will or should be for the rest of the season.

The Vikings are already down Ryan Kelly, as their starting center is on injured reserve. Like Okudah, he suffered a pair of concussions in a very short time period. Kelly has a history of concussions over the course of his career, and he could certainly be looking at something of a forced retirement because of that.

I’m not sure what Okudah’s concussion history looks like, but we have seen two significant brain injuries in a very short time period. The fact that Okudah has been bad from a production standpoint really shouldn’t matter here. Okudah needs to think about his health both in the short term and in the long term.

If the Vikings are going to be without Okudah, the onus falls on youngster Dwight McGlothern. He is the only other cornerback on the roster, and while Fabian Moreau can be elevated off the practice squad, he’s a well-traveled veteran who really hasn’t stuck anywhere.

The Vikings rolled the dice on the positional group this offseason, and they may very well get bit in the most disheartening way possible.
