History Still Buries the Vikings in Seattle

The Minnesota Vikings head to Seattle this Sunday, needing a win to keep the faint embers of the 2025 season alive. The trip to Seattle historically hasn’t been favorable for Vikings football.
VikingsTerritory looks at how history doesn’t favor the Vikings as they head to Seattle in Week 13.
Despite winning the last two meetings between the two ball clubs, the Seahawks have not been favourable opponents for Minnesota over the years. The two teams have faced off 20 times since their first meeting back in 1976, and it’s the team from Seattle that holds the advantage in the head-to-head record with 13 wins to Minnesota’s seven.
Seattle Is Never Too Kind to the Vikings
Of the 20 games, 12 have been played in Seattle, and the Vikings have won only three. Last season, with Sam Darnold (now under center in Seattle), Minnesota won at Lumen Field for the first time since 2006. The other Vikings win in Seattle came back in 1990.

The two recent Vikings wins (one in Minnesota and one in Seattle) ended a terrible run of results against the Seahawks, who won seven games in a row against the Vikings between 2012 and 2020, with five of those games being played in Seattle. It’s not been a happy hunting ground for the purple team, but hopefully, they can draw from their more recent success.
Vikings vs. Seahawks in 2025
The form guide also favors the Seahawks, who are enjoying their season far more than their counterparts in Minnesota. Darnold has built on the success he had last year playing for Kevin O’Connell and led Seattle to an 8-3 record with the playoffs firmly in sight, in contrast to the Vikings, whose season has fallen apart in recent weeks and has major question marks at QB going into this game.

Whatever QB ranking you wish to look at, you will find Darnold somewhere in the top 10, and JJ McCarthy dead last. The buildup to this game was supposed to be about pitting the QB the Vikings chose against the one they let go.
However, McCarthy will miss the game because of a concussion, and undrafted rookie Max Brosmer will make his first career start in Seattle on Sunday. Brosmer might give the stuttering Vikings offense a jolt, but an undrafted rookie stepping into the team on the road and finding a way to win is a big ask.
Darnold landed in a good situation in Seattle, where Mike Macdonald is building a very good team. There is a solid offensive line to protect the QB, and Jaxson Smith-Njigba is having a huge third season in the NFL, already the best of his career with six games left. The Seahawks also have a solid defense that doesn’t give up many points — only 19.7 per game — which gives them a great chance to win. Put it all together, and you get a team that looks playoff-caliber.
With confidence low in Minnesota, it’s going to be a big ask to go to Seattle and win.
