A Couple of Old Vikings Could Get a Ring

Although the season didn’t end the way Minnesota wanted it to, it’s hard to be disappointed with where the Vikings found themselves. Sam Darnold reached heights that were otherwise unexpected, and battling for the top seed in the NFC was quite impressive.

The Super Bowl will go on without the Vikings, but that doesn’t mean a couple of familiar faces won’t be on the field. If the Philadelphia Eagles are going to best Patrick Mahomes, then both Lewis Cine and Nick Muse will be Super Bowl champions.

Minnesota’s former first-round safety selection was cut prior to the regular season. He bounced around a bit but ultimately signed with the Eagles for the final stretch. He appeared in a game earlier this year for the Bills but has yet to see the field with Philadelphia. Of course, Vikings fans saw him flop mightily, so the connection isn’t great.
Nick Muse was a seventh-round pick by Minnesota and played in 16 games over the past three seasons. With T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver missing time this year, Muse saw action in three games. He is primarily a special teams player but did catch a pass in 2023.

Philadelphia is not a team that will generate much support from Vikings fans. Unless the goal is to root against Patrick Mahomes and his shot at winning three straight Super Bowls, then it might just be a contest to watch the commercials. The Eagles have bested the Vikings in recent seasons, and their fans often draw the ire of the rest of the league.
Next season, the hope is that J.J. McCarthy can emulate his draft classmate Jayden Daniels. The rookie took Washington to the NFC Championship game, and if they emerged victorious, he would have played in a Super Bowl during his first professional season.
Minnesota is set up to reload this offseason. Given the sheer amount of free agents expected to hit the open market, there will be plenty of turnover. That said, it’s the first time in years that they won’t be strapped against the salary cap due to Kirk Cousins carrying a gaudy contract number.

The Vikings have ample money to spend, so the roster should be supplemented throughout.
