Vikings Beats Tennessee, But Have Work to Do

Vikings Territory Breakdown

On Sunday afternoon, the Minnesota Vikings beat the hapless Titans in Tennessee 23-13. They didn’t dominate, although they could have, but it puts them at 8-2 and still one-game behind the Lions in the NFC North. That’s the good news. The bad news is a leaky secondary suddenly susceptible to the long ball; a defense benefited greatly by some questionable calls by the refs, the cupcakes on the schedule are done and the Vikes must next travel to Soldier Field, where strange things happen.

The game will not to go immediately to the NFL Network as an instant classic, but it was a better performance by the Purple than last week’s ugly win. The defense was in charge for a time, but then started to look confused and porous and let the Titans hang around in the game. The defense benefitted from an offense that put up a third quarter TD and a fourth quarter field goal to secure the win. It’s a win, but when head coach Kevin O’Connell tells the media the team has to get better, we have no argument.

But there still might be some disagreement (there usually is). And the fellas at Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast—Joe Oberle, senior writer at vikingsterritory.com and purplePTSD.com and Mark Craig, NFL and Vikings writer for the Star Tribune and startribune.com—are on hand to mix it up about everything Purple.
