So, Will the Vikings Finish with the 1st Seed?
Only two more weeks remain in the NFL regular season.
The Minnesota Vikings, who were not expected by many to even make it to the playoffs, are 13-2 and have a shot at getting the first seed in the NFC.
So, Will the Vikings Finish with the 1st Seed?
This league is always so unpredictable. Even the biggest optimists of this team would have never imagined they would be where they are, but again, the unpredictability of this game is part of what makes it so fun.
As expected, though, the Detroit Lions have been very good all year and are currently 13-2. They currently hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Minnesota, having defeated them earlier this season at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Minnesota just pulled off a nailbiter (ye,s another nailbiter) last week on the road against the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle is not as good as it was during the Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll days, but it still had a winning record at 8-6 heading into that game, and winning in Seattle is never easy.
So the question remains: will Minnesota get the first seed?
Well, they certainly have a shot. The Philadelphia Eagles losing on the road to the Washington Commanders last week certainly helped. Minnesota, though, controls its own destiny. They must win these final two games and are automatically the first seed.
It’s much easier said than done, though. While they play at home this weekend, they also play the Green Bay, who have been looking good lately. In the final week, they travel to Detroit. Detroit continues to be hit hard by the injury bug, but winning at Ford Field will not be easy either.
At the moment, you have to think that Detroit will win the division for the second year in a row, even with all their injuries. However, Minnesota continues to do a great job staying on their heels. It should be surprising if Minnesota comes away with the divisional title and first seed.
Minnesota could also very well be the fifth or sixth seed.
Obviously, it would be best to get the first seed and the first-round bye for Minnesota. The last time they had the first seed was in 1998. They did not advance to the Super Bowl, but the first seed is still very beneficial.
If the 2009 and 2017 Minnesota teams had the first seed, they would have hosted the NFC Championship Game. Think about how beneficial that would have been. Having the first seed never guarantees anything, but it helps big time.
Regardless of what seed Minnesota finishes at, the job that Kevin O’Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah have done these last three years should continue to receive plenty of praise. Super Bowl or not, this team is set up very nicely for the future. They could very possibly be competing for Super Bowls for many years to come.
Fans should also be proud of how much this year’s team has exceeded expectations. If they do, they may even make the Super Bowl this year, which would, of course, make things that much better for this franchise and fanbase.
The safest bet is probably the Lions earning the No. 1 seed, but a fanbase can dream.
