Minnesota Vikings cornerback Khyree Jackson has passed away, according to Oregon reporter James Crepea.

The cause of death was reportedly a car accident.

The 24-year-old was Minnesota’s fourth-round draft choice at pick 108. He was a promising option to support the secondary in the upcoming season.

The Vikings sent their thoughts to everyone involved.

The franchise also released a statement from owners Mark and Zygi Wilf.

At age 24, Jackson entered the draft as an older prospect because he had an extensive journey in college, starting at Arizona Western College. After a break because of homesickness, Jackson gave it another try at Fort Scott Community College. His stint at East Mississippi Community College was cut short because of COVID. The season was canceled.

He still caught the eye of Alabama’s head coach, Nick Saban, and spent two seasons there before transferring to Oregon for his final collegiate season.

Among various other coaches and teammates, Oregon’s head coach, Dan Lanning, confirmed the tragedy on X.

Kevin Seifert shared the police report from Maryland State Police:
