What Minnesota Vikings Fans Need to Know Heading into Week 5 vs. New York Jets
The Minnesota Vikings are 4-0 and one of two undefeated teams in the NFL after escaping a furious comeback from the Green Bay Packers last weekend.
Now, the Vikings are ready to put their undefeated record on the line once again when they match up with the New York Jets in Week 5. This game is set to take place overseas, so while it is technically a home game, the Vikings will enjoy few of the home commodities that typically come with a home game.
Here is a look at everything Minnesota Vikings fans need to know heading into that matchup.
How to Watch the Minnesota Vikings This Week
With the Week 5 game between the Jets and Vikings taking place in London, kickoff is slated for 8:30 AM Central on Sunday, October 6th.
The game can be viewed NFL Network, so it will not be broadcast on either of the typical CBS or FOX networks. It can also be streamed via NFL+ in the NFL app or NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube TV.
Jets/Vikings History
Despite being two of the older franchises in the NFL, the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings have met a grand total of just 12 times in their histories. To this point, the Jets lead the all-time series with an 8-4 record against the Vikings.
That being said, the Jets have not defeated the Vikings since the 2010 season with Minnesota claiming victories in three consecutive games. The most recent of these wins came in 2022 when the Vikings inched past the Jets with a 27-22 victory.
Vikings Spotlight Player: QB Sam Darnold
It’s been a truly remarkable turnaround for Sam Darnold in Minnesota this season. After throwing for three more touchdowns at Lambeau Field, Darnold continues his dominance atop the passing TD rankings with 11 through four games and is more than halfway to his career-high in that department.
Now, Darnold gets a chance to take on the team where it all started. The Jets selected Darnold with the third overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but it never clicked for the USC product in New York, and since then, he has bounced around the league as a backup before joining the Vikings this spring.
This weekend will provide another big test for Darnold against a defense that has allowed just 512 passing yards and two passing TDs through four games. Both totals are near the top of the NFL. Darnold will need to be at his best to move the ball against this stout defensive unit.
Jets Spotlight Player: WR Garrett Wilson
So far this season, the Vikings secondary has more than lived up to expectations by shutting down opposing offenses. That being said, Garrett Wilson arguably is the best wide receiver that Minnesota has faced to this point in the season.
Wilson’s 2024 season has been quiet to this point in time as the former Offensive Rookie of the Year has caught just 20 passes for 191 yards and one touchdown. He has surpassed 50 receiving yards just twice in 2024.
The slow start cannot be expected to continue, particularly after a very frustrating loss to the Denver Broncos last week. Wilson assuredly will come out motivated in Week 5 against the Vikings, and Minnesota’s cornerback room will have to be prepared.
