Jordan Addison Personally Offers Injury Update

That’s the word from Minnesota Vikings WR2 Jordan Addison as the purple team travels to New Jersey for a Sunday date with the New York Giants. Addison has been limited in practice this week but personally claimed it’s all systems go for his ankle in Week 1.

Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling tweeted Thursday, three days before Giants-Vikings: “Vikings’ injury report is the same on Thursday as it was Wednesday. Jordan Addison said in the locker room he’ll be ready for Sunday.”

On Wednesday, one day before the Goessling tweet, head coach Kevin O’Connell addressed Addison’s status for Week 1 at the New York Giants while the team released its first official injury report of 2024. “He’s doing better. He was limited on Monday and moved around quite well,” O’Connell opined. “He’ll do a little more today, and then we’d like to kind progress him, hopefully, to full by the end of the week. I think Jordan’s in a good spot, and I feel pretty good about him making the game.”

Then, Addison came along and offered the go-live assurance on Thursday.

Minnesota will need Addison in the lineup this weekend, especially with Pro Bowl tight end T.J. Hockenson on the shelf. Hockenson can return Week 5 at the earliest, and in the meantime, Justin Jefferson, Addison, Jalen Nailor, tight ends Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt, and Nick Muse will serve as new quarterback Sam Darnold’s pass catchers.

The Vikings found Jordan Addison 16 months ago in the 2023 NFL Draft, and he quickly manufactured a memorable rookie season by showing instant credibility as a transferrable college-to-pro receiver in the league. Addison totaled 70 receptions, 911 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns in 2023. Two months ago, though, California Highway Patrol arrested Addison for suspicion of DUI, a matter he’s scheduled to address in court on October 7th. If convicted, he’ll likely face a suspension, probably in the neighborhood of three games.

Addison’s teammate, Jalen Nailor, also remained on the injury report as a “limited participant” (ankle), and his status is more mysterious than Addison’s. The final injury report will reveal a game status on Friday. Minnesota would turn to Brandon Powell, Trishton Jackson, or Trent Sherfield at WR3 if Nailor cannot compete.

The Vikings are favored to defeat the Giants by a point or two this weekend, a point spread that has flipped over the past few months.
