Aaron Jones Enjoyed His Return to Lambeau Field
The Minnesota Vikings moved to 4-0 and maintained their position at the top of the division with a win over the Green Bay Packers. The victory kept their strong start to the season going. It was a great day for one former Packer as Aaron Jones enjoyed his return to Lambeau Field for the first time as a Viking.
Aaron Jones Enjoyed His Return to Lambeau Field
The Vikings exploded to a 28-0 lead and looked to be cruising to a comfortable win. Of course, the Vikings being the Vikings, a series of mistakes by coaches, players, and officials saw the Packers come back into the game, and things became anything but comfortable. Eventually, the Vikings recovered an onside kick with seconds on the clock to seal the 31-29 win. Despite the second-half wobble, a win in Lambeau Field shouldn’t be underestimated.
Jones didn’t manage to score a touchdown, which meant he couldn’t do the Lambeau Leap celebration that he had done many times when he was a Packer. He did, however, make a significant impact on the game. Jones rushed 22 times for 93 yards at an average of 4.2 yards per rush. Once again showcasing his dual-threat ability, Jones also has four catches for 46 yards. There was no touchdown celebration for Jones, but there was a post-game victory vault.
Jones vs. Jacobs
It will certainly please Jones that he came out of Lambeau Field with the win for his new team. It will have pleased him just as much as it was achieved with him outperforming the man his former team decided to bring in to replace him. The Packers didn’t want to pay Jones the money he was due to make this season and instead opted to release the man who is third on the list of their all-time rushing yards leaders.
The Packers opted to look to the long-term, offering Jacobs a big multi-year deal. Jones found his way to the Vikings. The game script meant the opportunities for Jacobs to run the ball were limited. He only had nine carries which he turned into 51 yards. He also had four catches for 27 yards. In a matchup that I pointed out to be a key one before the game, it was a win for Jones and the Vikings, though through no fault of Jacobs, who did well when he was called upon.
Jones Enjoying The Win
Jones was clearly enjoying himself after the game, as well as the leap into the stands where he was signing autographs and chatting with fans outside of the stadium post-game. There was clear love for the Vikings number 33 from both sets of fans for a popular player.
Jones spent a lot of time on the field at the end of the game talking to former teammates and staff. Speaking to the media afterward, Jones revealed that Packers defenders had talked to him about not letting him do the Lambeau Leap. His response, “You guys should be worried about the score. I got what I wanted. I did get my leap in; I just didn’t score. But I like the win better,” was excellent.
It was a great day for Jones and the Vikings who return to Minnesota still unbeaten before a trip overseas to London in Week 5.
