Vikings Mourn the Loss of Rookie Khyree Jackson
Vikings Territory Breakdown Podcast
The Vikings received the worst of news over the holiday weekend, when they learned that rookie draft pick Khyree Jackson was killed in a tragic automobile accident on July 6. The news hit hard and quickly reverberated throughout the team and its fans base, as the young 24-year-old cornerback lost his life when so much of it (and filled with so much promise) was right in front of him. We send out deepest sympathies and condolences to Khyree’s family and to the families of the two people who tragically died in the accident.
The news was difficult to hear, particularly when you consider that Jackson’s was in the prime of his life and at the precipice of his career in the NFL. And for Vikings fans it must certainly jog memories of other team members who lost their lives at this time of year in the past. Former Vikings lineman Korey Stringer was just 27 years old when he passed away during training camp in 2001 and former coach Tony Sparano passed away within a week before camp in 2018.
The Vikings will once again prepare for their next season with heavy hearts, as, in his short time with the organization, Khyree was already making friends and proving to be a great teammate at TCO Performance Center. He will be greatly missed.
Suffice it to say that we at the Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast (Joe Oberle, senior writer at vikingsterritory.com and purplePTSD.com and Mark Craig, NFL and Vikings writer for the Star Tribune and startribune.com) will address Khyree’s passing this week. Rest in peace to a good young man taken all too soon.
