Suspension Would Crush the Vikings’ WRs
As things stand, the Minnesota Vikings employ the best top tandem of wide receivers across the NFL. The problem is that Justin Jefferson will very likely be without his top running mate to start the season. A suspension should be relatively expected for Jordan Addison.
Suspension Would Crush the Vikings’ WRs
The details surrounding Jordan Addison’s recent arrest are murky at best. He was cited on suspicion of DUI, but there has been little suggested as to what he was under the influence of. Beyond that, it doesn’t appear he was ever booked into jail, and a mugshot never surfaced. Regardless, this is the second misstep in as many seasons for the youngster, and the NFL operates with its own rules.
Regardless of how the legal system handles Addison, Roger Goodell will likely impose some sort of suspension. Given how previous incidents have been handled, a three-game absence appears likely for the Minnesota Vikings wide receiver. Before even considering the opponents, that means Sam Darnold will be without his top tight end, second wide receiver, and a complete question mark as the third wide receiver.
It has been wildly apparent all offseason that the Vikings need to bolster their wide receiver corps. There’s a reason to believe that Brandon Powell could work, and a healthy Jalen Nailor could work as well. Both are relative crapshoots, though not doing more would be quite a choice.
Whether the Houston Texans cut Robert Woods, signed Hunter Renfrow, or found a way to trade for Adam Thielen, something must be done. The Vikings simply cannot go into the season with their current group, and it’s even worse if they do so knowing Addison is highly likely to be suspended.
The choices Addison made this offseason leave some room for maturing. Their ramifications also leave some room for Minnesota to find contingency plans. Time is running out to execute them, but it has to get done.
