Jordan Addison Could Disrupt Vikings’ Season
The Minnesota Vikings kick off their 2024 regular season on the road against the New York Giants. Right now, it is possible that star wide receiver Jordan Addison plays in that game. However, he may not be available in the middle of the campaign, and that creates a problem.
Jordan Addison Could Disrupt Vikings’ Season
Earlier this offseason, Jordan Addison was arrested on suspicion of DUI. That has since turned into misdemeanor charges, and he reportedly had a BAC above the legal limit of .08. Whatever legal ramifications occur remain to be seen, but the NFL will likely impose a suspension when those are sorted out.
For now, the Minnesota Vikings wide receiver is set for a hearing in October, which would fall just after the Week 5 trip to London. Of course, the Vikings aren’t projected to be a significant contender this season, but should they click early and things break their way, a return to the States in surprising condition wouldn’t be unfathomable.
Suspensions for these sorts of matters have often been imposed on a three-week basis. That would put Addison on the shelf right in the middle of Minnesota’s season. Given the candidates for the third wide receiver role, there is already plenty of uncertainty at the wide receiver position. Losing Addison would put a significant amount of weight on the shoulders of the quarterback and Justin Jefferson.
This season, Kevin O’Connell has to hope for a consistently healthy Jefferson. That will allow whoever is under center the greatest opportunity to thrive. Jefferson failing to have a capable running mate would mean that he would see more focused coverage, and without T.J. Hockenson on the field, it gets even more difficult for him to separate.
Unfortunately, Addison made a poor decision over the offseason and one that came so close to losing teammate Khyree Jackson.
There will be consequences for that decision, and when they are imposed, his employer will now be forced to deal with them as well.
