Undefeated Vikings Host the Lions
Vikings Territory Breakdown
It may seem like a distant memory now that we are a bye week removed from it, but the Vikings defeated Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets 23-17 in London last Sunday morning and continued their great start to the 2024 season. At 5-0, the Purple remains atop the NFC North Division and a game ahead of the defending divisional champion Detroit Lions (who they meet this week in Ford Field)—and the stakes couldn’t be larger.
The Vikings can separate themselves a bit from all NFC North challengers with a home win over the Lions and help to put away all the doubt that creeps in for Vikings fans when watching their favorite team in the second halves of games this season. The Vikings start fast and struggle out of the locker room in the second half and then hang on to win . . . every time. That last fact of being undefeated is great, but the route taken there is slightly unnerving.
Still, the Vikings are 5-0. But the Lions are no chumps. So, this game will be more informative on exactly how good this Minnesota Vikings team is than anything else has this season. Beat the defending title holders and you become the team to beat, even though most of the football-watching country doesn’t yet agree with that.
It’s a huge game. And coming off the bye should help the Purple be rested and ready (and hopefully not rusty) when they take the field Sunday morning. But before that happens, the fellas at Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast—Joe Oberle, senior writer at vikingsterritory.com and purplePTSD.com and Mark Craig, NFL and Vikings writer for the Star Tribune and startribune.com—are here to prep you for it. We’ll look back at the Jets game and ahead to the Lions game and offer our prediction of the outcome. Tune in and check it out.
