Injuries Finally Arise at Vikings Training Camp

The Minnesota Vikings have about one week of training camp in the books, and injuries emerged from the event on Tuesday.

To date, the club was gliding along sans serious injuries, and the extent of Tuesday’s are unknown in terms of long-term impact.

Injuries Finally Arise at Vikings Training Camp

First, Andrew Booth was hobbled as the second-year corner eyes a starter’s job in 2023. Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling tweeted, “Vikings cornerback Andrew Booth just walked off with a member of the team’s athletic training staff.”

Injuries derailed Booth’s rookie season in 2022, and it is unclear if his exit from Vikings training camp is a ‘tweak’ or something longer-standing. Booth played 105 defensive snaps in six games last year.

After the Booth incident, upstart Vikings wide receiver Trishton Jackson appeared to suffer a grimmer injury. Goessling tweeted about Jackson, “They’re getting the cart for Vikings receiver Trishton Jackson, who went down with what appeared to be a right knee injury after a deep ball on the sideline. Justin Jefferson, Kevin O’Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah all went over to check on him.”

Jackson then left practice on a cart — an ominous sign for his fourth NFL season.

On Booth, the Vikings plan to start newcomer free agent Byron Murphy, but after his sure-thing status as a starter, mystery looms. The CB2 for Week 1 could be Booth, Akayleb Evans, free-agent signee Joejuan Williams, or rookie Mekhi Blackmon. Booth grabbed an interception on Friday at camp, and hopeful optimism has surrounded his sophomore season.

He did walk off the field, however, and fans will await news on the injury with fingers crossed for positive news.

Fears Confirmed: Vikings Rookie Lost for Season

For Jackson, well, he’s a training camp highlight video — one who hasn’t quite caught on for a roster spot through three seasons in the league. An undrafted free agent with the Rams in 2020, Jackson stayed on Los Angeles’ depth chart for about a year and a half before eventually landing with the Vikings in 2021. He’s impressed back-to-back Vikings coaching staffs and general managers.

He’s vying for a roster spot among WR5 candidates like Jalen Reagor, Brandon Powell, and Blake Proehl. That outlook was obviously dampened Tuesday as he left camp on a cart.

Like Booth, more information will be available on Jackson soon.

Around the NFL, Joe Burrow (QB, Bengals), Jalen Ramsey (CB, Dolphins), and Tim Patrick (WR, Broncos), among others, have been bitten by the injury bug.

The Vikings travel to Seattle for a preseason game against the Seahawks on Thursday, August 10th.
