Chiefs Win the Big One: Super Game with a Stupor Ending

Vikings Territory Breakdown: Joe Oberle and Mark Craig

So it ends . . . the Super Bowl and 2022-23 NFL Season. And so it begins, the 2023-24 NFL season. The Super Bowl finished with a great game, plenty of flash and a dash of controversy. The Kansas City Chiefs beat Philadelphia Eagles in SB LVII on a last-minute (seconds) field goal by a score of 38-35. Plenty of scoring, exciting plays, halftime entertainment and some okay ads and now we can put it to bed and speculate on the Vikings’ march back to the playoffs this coming season.

The Vikings were unceremoniously dumped pretty early out of these exciting playoffs, and while a win would have only postponed the inevitable, it left a sour taste in the mouths of most Vikings fans after that incredible 13-4 regular season. (A lot like the sour taste in the mouth of Eagles fans after the holding call on the final scoring drive of the game. There is always only one happy fan base at the end of the season.)

The Vikings have a lot of work to do to return to the playoffs and hopefully stay there a little longer next season. It began last week with the hiring of defensive coordinator Brian Flores and begins in earnest this week in attempting to rebuild the defense, bolster the offensive line, pare down the salary cap, make tough decisions on aging veterans, remake the running back room, extend (or don’t extend) Kirk Cousins, give Justin Jefferson a new contract without breaking the bank, start figuring out how to keep T.J. Hockenson the following year, and, did we mention, rebuild the defense. The Vikings general manager and head coach combo of Kwesi Adolfo-Mensah and Kevin O’Connell have a lot of work to do.

So do we here at Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast (well not as much as Kwesi and KOC). Joe Oberle from VikingsTerritory and purplePTSD and Mark Craig from the Star Tribune and startribue.com are here to analyze everything those other two guys do until the start of next season. So, the harder they work, the harder we work—well, still not as hard as them. But you get the idea—you can find it all here on the podcast: a Super Bowl recap, Vikings news, postseason awards news and analysis from Craig, who is one of the voters who voted for JJ as the Offensive Player of the Year. All that and more—check it out.
