Justin Jefferson is one of the biggest stars in the NFL. He is the guy who fills arenas, kids want to be like him, and the league + the Vikings are doing their best to market the bright young star.

During Super Bowl week, the biggest names of the NFL have a lot of media presence, as they are doing many radio and TV interviews. Jefferson is no different. He appeared on multiple shows in the last few days, just days before his well-deserved offseason can finally begin.

The receiver is almost a synonym for his famous dance, the Griddy. While he isn’t the inventor, he is the guy who brought it to the NFL and made it world-famous. After every touchdown, Jefferson is hitting the Griddy, or at least some version of it. In 2022, he gave some fans a big shock when he acted like he hurt his hamstring as a part of the dance.

It is his signature move, but he might be done with it for good. In the days leading up to the Super Bowl, Jefferson joined Matt Harmon of Yahoo Sports and talked about the dance after Harmon asked him what question he was most annoyed by.

Can you teach me how to griddy? That’s the thing. I’ve been griddying for what, four years now? So if you don’t know how to griddy yet, (there’s) something wrong (with you).

Asked if he needed a different celebration or if he would just keep going, Jefferson responded:

A little mixture of both. I definitely got to figure out a new celebration coming towards next season. The Griddy has been going on long enough, four years now. So I feel like that’s the longest time a dance has been trending and popular, so I feel like it’s about time for me to try to adventure off to something new.

Justin Jefferson about the Griddy

The Vikings became the team of the Griddy in recent years. Many different players tried to do the dance, some with more success than others.

The most important thing is that the players have fun with it. As long as that is the case, they should keep going.

Jefferson has been setting trends and breaking records ever since stepping foot on an NFL field. He broke the single-season franchise records for most receiving yards and receptions in 2022 and became the player with the most receiving yards in the first three career seasons. In addition, Jefferson became the youngest player ever to lead the league in receiving yards and catches.

Breaking records in terms of salary could be next on his agenda. He is eligible for a new contract in the 2023 offseason and is in a position to reset the receiver market. The Vikings will most likely pick up his fifth-year option soon.
