The Vikings filled 14 of the 16 available spots so far.

Practice Squad Restrictions

The practice squad has a few rules this year. Ten of the 16 spots are restricted to players with two or fewer years of experience. Rookies Koback, Muse, Sokol, and Kwenkeu are obvious fits. In addition, Robinson, Twyman, Toivonen, and Gowan enter their second year and are eligible. Trishton Jackson is in his third year but never played nine games in a season. Therefore, he’s eligible to take one of those spots as well. The same is the case for Kyle Hinton and T.J. Smith.

David Blough and Parry Nickerson take two of the six unrestricted spots. There are no restrictions for those six spots. Myles Dorn and Dan Chisena take exception spots, as they were active for more than nine games.

Salaries

The veterans get paid between $15,400 and $19,900 per week. The younger players, meanwhile, have a weekly salary of $11,500. That salary counts against the salary cap. None of the salaries are guaranteed, so teams can add and subtract players weekly without extra costs.

Hinton, Muse, Twyman, and Robinson were former Vikings’ draft picks. Gowan comes over from the Eagles. He was a 2021 sixth-round pick of the Cardinals and was traded to the Eagles in the trade around Zach Ertz. On Tuesday, the Eagles waived the second-year cornerback. Gowan passed his physical on Thursday.

Travis Toivonen is a hometown kid. He’s from Red Wing, Minnesota. The wideout attended the University of North Dakota. He was signed by the Seahawks in 2021 as an undrafted free agent and ended up spending the year on the Giants practice squad. He was waived on Monday in advance of the final roster cuts.

David Blough spent the last three years in Detroit. He signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and the Lions later traded for him. Blough started five NFL games and is still waiting for his first win. He has thrown for four touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Four players can be protected each week, so they can’t be signed by another team off their practice squad. However, any unprotected player may be signed to a 53-man roster at any time.

Quarterback Sean Mannion will join the Seahawks practice squad. Other practice squad candidates are still unsigned, like Zach Davidson and Myron Mitchell.

A notable player from recent Vikings practice squads is Adam Thielen, who was part of the practice squad in 2013 before he made the 53-man roster in 2014.
