Shock TRADE! Vikings Land Former 1st-Round WR

Shock TRADE! Vikings Land Former 1st-Round WR

The Minnesota Vikings now have a lot of mouths to feed on offense.

New general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah reportedly swung a deal on Wednesday with the Philadelphia Eagles, acquiring former 1st-Round WR Jalen Reagor for a 2023 7th-Round pick and a conditional 4th-Rounder in 2024.

Reagor was the pick directly before wideout Justin Jefferson in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Rumors of trade discussions were reported on Tuesday by Let’s Go to the Phones, a reputable sports podcast in Philadelphia. And, LGttP was correct.

An underachiever to date, Reagor adds a wild twist to the Vikings 2022 offensive plans. At TCU, he was an ultra-dangerous deep threat with game-changing speed, particularly on vertical routes. But thus far with the Eagles, Reagor has only been targeted 111 times in two years. The Vikings have tallied Jefferson 196 times. Reagor’s 111 targets rank 104th in the NFL since the start of 2020.

Reagor also returns punts.

The trade by the Vikings is the third in two days — with hours still remaining on Wednesday — as Adofo-Mensah sent OT Jesse Davis to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a conditional 7th-Round pick and gained DT Ross Blacklock from the Houston Texans for a 6th-Round pick. The Vikings also received a 7th-Rounder from Houston in addition to Blacklock.

Vikings Reportedly in Trade Talks for WR Drafted before Justin Jefferson

A live peek at the Vikings WR room will now look like this:

  • WR1: Justin Jefferson
  • WR2: Adam Thielen
  • WR3: K.J. Osborn
  • WR4: Jalen Reagor
  • WR5: Ihmir Smith-Marsette
  • WR6: Jalen Nailor

Reagor has tallied 64 catches for 695 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 28 career games. He’ll instantly become the Vikings WR4 or WR5.

The trade also explains the cut of Dan Chisena from the Vikings roster on Tuesday. Per sources, Chisena was trending to make the 53-man depth chart, but Minnesota was apparently readying the Reagor deal behind the scenes.

Interestingly, Reagor was the draft pick “laughed at” by the former Vikings bosses Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer on draft night in 2020. The draft was virtual due to the pandemic, and Minnesota’s brass was seen chuckling about the foolishness of Reagor-over-Jefferson.

The Vikings play the Eagles in Philadelphia on Monday Night Football in 19 days.
