The Vikings Final Injury Report: Week 9

Vikings Said Goodbye
Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports.

The Minnesota Vikings travel to the nation’s capital for a date with the Washington Commanders on Sunday at noon CST, the eighth regular season game of the 2022 season.

The Vikings beat the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8, while the Commanders downed the Sam Ehlinger-led Indianapolis Colts on the road. Washington, now 4-4 through eight games, is suddenly nibbling at an NFC wildcard berth.

The Vikings injury report is spottier than last’s week when the team was fresh off the bye week. Notably, Irv Smith is on the shelf for 6 to 10 weeks.

Washington has five players formally on the injury report.

These are each team’s injured players two days before Week 9.

Adam Thielen and Za’Darius Smith were notably banged up in Week 8 but will play against the Commanders.

Commanders Injury Report

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports.

OUT Jahan Dotson (WR, hamstring)
OUT Cole Holcomb (LB, foot)
OUT David Mayo (OLB, foot)
OUT J.D. McKissic (RB, neck)
QUESTIONABLE Shaka Toney (DE, calf)

It wouldn’t be absolutely unheard of for Chase Young (DE) to return, although Washington has been quiet about his Week 9 prognosis. He’ll likely remain on the PUP list.

Commanders players Logan Thomas (TE), Cole Turner (TE), Jonathan Allen (DT), and Tyler Larsen (C) were hampered or didn’t partake in practice at points throughout the week but were removed from the final injury report.

The Vikings are favored by three points over the Commanders in Week 9. Minnesota leads the all-time win-loss series over Washington, 14-13 (.518). Washington has lost to Minnesota nine times in 13 tries since 1993.

Sunday’s game marks Kirk Cousins’ first trip to Washington as a visiting quarterback.
