Nobody Could’ve Predicted Kirk Cousins Would Become This Icy
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has undergone a makeover from a total “dad persona” to a total dad persona with icy chains all around his neck.
What began as an innocent social media moment on the way home from a win over the New Orleans Saints in London has turned into an ice-dripping spectacle.
That’s right — Cousins and the Vikings chipped off the Saints in England during Week 4, and Cousins’ teammates tossed a gaudy chain around his neck thereafter.
The experiment clearly amused the 34-year-old, and Minnesota hasn’t lost a game since the chain-donning video. So, after each road victory — they’re accumulating rapidly — various Vikings players wrap more chains around Cousins’ victorious throat.
After defeating the Miami Dolphins, Cousins added more jewelry to the mix while wearing an outfit like Sonny Crockett from Miami Vice.
And as Cousins’ iciness spiked to high heavens, he earned nicknames like “Big Kirko,” “Lil Kirko,” “Kirk Shiesty,” and others from his coworkers. Meanwhile, since the chain bit, the Vikings have won six consecutive games, eviscerating the Green Bay Packers chances for a fourth straight NFC North crown. Green Bay has lost five games in a row, and Minnesota has won six straight. Accordingly, the Vikings have 98% odds of winning the division, per FiveThirtyEight.
Now, with the Vikings magic number down to five wins or five Packers losses — with 2.5 weeks to go before Thanksgiving — the legend of Cousins and the bling is enhancing. He helped Minnesota down his former team, the Washington Commanders, on Sunday, and the plane trip home involved the most ice yet.
Only the Philadelphia Eagles have a better record leaguewide than the Vikings, and much of the success is attributable to Cousins, his ninth-best-in-the-NFL Pro Football Focus grade, and his four 4th Quarter comebacks in 2022.
Incidentally, the Eagles were the last team to beat the Vikings. But Cousins has been iced out pretty much ever since.
Minnesota travels to Buffalo in Week 10 for a date with the Bills. Cousins and Co. are early seven-point underdogs. The Bills are considered frontrunners to win the Super Bowl per sportsbooks. If the Vikings knock off Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, and Leslie Frazier, the next chapter in the Cousins Icy Saga could be damn near unfathomable.
