Mitch Massman’s Favorite Vikings Player Bets

Will NFL Pundits Admit

As the NFL has grown, so have the online betting markets. The betting markets have become a major conversational point and one of the best indicators of how a team will perform. Of course, these markets are not perfect. They never are. However, there are some really interesting Vikings player bets available right now.

Usually, the first betting line I look at is the Vikings over/under for wins. After all, winning is all we fans want in Minnesota. We have a history full of heartbreak, and maybe one day, we will finally have that championship season.

Although, if you look at the market right now, they don’t believe the Vikings have a great chance of doing that this year. Currently, DraftKings has the Vikings at +4000, tied for 16th best odds to win the Super Bowl.

While the markets believe the Vikings are gearing up for mediocrity, fans are far more excited about the season. The offense is loaded with talent. If Kevin O’Connell can be a good play caller, the Vikings have a legitimate shot of an 11-win season.

Regardless of the team performance, there are still some really fun player props to look forward to. If you believe the Vikings will be average as a team, these bets will give you something to look forward to this season.

My Favorite Vikings Player Props

As with every NFL season, we have all sorts of betting options. And lucky enough for us, there are tons of Vikings players to choose from. Here are some of the available options currently:

  • Passing yards and touchdowns – Cousins at +1800 and +2000, respectively
  • Receiving yards and receptions – Jefferson at +800 and +600, respectively
  • Over/Under receiving yards – Jefferson -115 to have more than 1350.5
  • Comeback POTY – Hunter at +3000
  • Defensive ROTY – Booth Jr. +2200

There are way more betting lines that you can research, but these are the ones that stood out to me.

Betting on Kirk Cousins to overachieve at anything seems like a fool’s errand. However, with KOC as the head coach, the possibility of a pass-heavy offense is likely. Although, much of this will depend on KOC’s ability to get Cousins not to have so many lapses in judgment.

If KOC can do this, Cousins throwing for 5,000 yards and 40+ touchdowns is not a ridiculous idea. In 2021, Cousins threw for 4,221 yards and 33 touchdowns. And this was under Zimmer’s notorious establish the run regime.

Of course, if Cousins can come close to these numbers, Justin Jefferson will have an electrifying season. Jefferson already said he wants a 2,000-yard season, so clearing the 1,350 yards should be a slam dunk bet.

Jefferson’s unyielding confidence is likely a factor in the markets, having him as the favorite for most receiving yards. He is also the second favorite, behind Kupp, for most receptions. Once again, if Cousins can perform like we know he can, Jefferson could easily slam both of these prop bets.

Hunter and Booth Jr. Could Be Award Winners in 2022

Here is where things get interesting. Both Hunter and Booth are options for winning awards in 2022. Booth has the 15th best odds to win Defensive ROTY, and Hunter has the 16th best odds to win Comeback POTY.

At first glance, neither of these bets seems like a good choice. First of all, Booth might not even be a starter. Secondly, Hunter could aggravate his neck injury and miss significant time. However, we can be homers about this. After all, it is July, and training camp just started.

As training camp gets started, a couple of things have stood out. First, Booth is an animal. He is playing with confidence and feistiness. Second, Hunter has been doing the thing that we have come to expect from him.

Booth Jr. appears to be on a trajectory to win the starting job. If he does, his tenacity and aggressiveness might get him in trouble but also might put him in a position to be one of the best rookie cornerbacks of his class.

Danielle Hunter has one key advantage to win Comeback POTY, Za’Darius Smith. Smith will take a ton of pressure off Hunter when rushing the quarterback. It would not be a surprise to see these two guys combine for nearly 30 sacks if they stay healthy.
