If you enjoyed Patrick Peterson’s veteran presence on the 2021 Minnesota Vikings roster, you’re getting a sequel.

The soon-to-be 32-year-old cornerback announced his decision to re-sign for one year with the Vikings on Wednesday.

Peterson tallied a 63.0 grade from Pro Football Focus in 2021, acting as the franchise’s most consistent corner. He was injured for four games, though — the first bout with injury in which he missed games during his 11-year career.

The resumption of Peterson’s career with the purple and gold should be considered fruition more than anything, as the former Arizona Cardinal explained — almost weekly — to reporters and fans his willingness to return to Minnesota. And now it’s actually happening.

Peterson’s return to the Vikings instantly legitimizes a Minnesota secondary classified as suspect for weeks. Aside from Peterson, the Vikings only have Cameron Dantzler and Chandon Sullivan from Green Bay on the roster as startable cornerbacks, a twosome not too feared leaguewide.

Now, however, the Vikings own a fieldable cornerback room if the season started tomorrow. What’s more, new general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah could still draft a cornerback in the 1st Round of April’s draft. Corners like Ahmad Gardner or Derek Stingley Jr. might reasonably be available at the Vikings 12th overall pick.

In 2021, Peterson showcased 45 total tackles, an interception, and a fabulous 78.7 passer-rating-against.

The financial terms of Peterson’s extension were not immediately available.
