Gotta Hear It: Vikings Quote of the Day — February 21, 2022

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports.

Each day, we select a quote about the Minnesota Vikings, uplifting the sentiment of the day or highlighting something notable.

The remark can come from a Vikings player, coach, writer, fan — or anybody, really. Selection of the quote is arbitrary. The excerpt may be insightful, humorous, groundbreaking, outlandish, or foolish. If you have a quote of the day (your own or from someone else), please send it to [email protected].

This quote is from February 20th, 2022, posted by TMZ from the mouth of Vikings running back Dalvin Cook.

Asked whether he [Dalvin Cook] and teammate Justin Jefferson would win a Super Bowl in Minnesota, Cook replied:

“We gonna win us one. We gonna win us one. We gonna win us one.”

– Dalvin Cook | Minnesota Vikings

Predictably, the video was shared as Cook “guaranteeing” a Super Bowl win, although Cook never used the term.

Cook, 26, figures to be an integral part of the Vikings offense again, this time under a new storefront banner with Kevin O’Connell in charge. The Vikings fired Mike Zimmer on January 10th, and the O’Connell-to-Vikings news became official last week.

Zimmer was a defensive thinker, whereas O’Connell has a Super Bowl-winning offense-first reputation. At his press conference last Thursday, O’Connell affirmed his Vikings will play a Rams-style offense. At the beginning of the Sean McVay era, the Rams employed Todd Gurley, who was deadly in Los Angeles for a handful of years. Perhaps Cook can emulate that good part of the Gurley era.

Cook seems to think so. Justin Jefferson has three more cracks at it with the Vikings as his rookie deal expires after the 2024 season. Hopefully, for the Vikings sake, Jefferson experiences some winning football as his first two seasons were mired by team mediocrity while the LSU alumnus set individual receiving-yard records.

Dustin Baker is a political scientist who graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2007. He hosts a podcast with Bryant McKinnie, which airs every Wednesday with Raun Sawh and Sally from Minneapolis. His Viking fandom dates back to 1996. Listed guilty pleasures: Peanut Butter Ice Cream, ‘The Sopranos,’ and The Doors (the band).
