Vikings Sign 3, Waive 2 After Rookie Minicamp

By Sean Borman

The Vikings made a number of roster moves following their rookie minicamp over the weekend. The minicamp included players from the team’s draft class, undrafted free agent signings and rookie tryout players. Ultimately, the team signed three players who stood out after the weekend event:

1. Isaiah Wharton, S, Rutgers
2. Terrence Alexander, CB, LSU
3. Stacy Keely, DE, UAB

Wharton (6-1, 205) made 48-straight starts at cornerback for Rutgers. He was a team captain in 2018. According to the team’s official website, he recorded 205 total tackles with 14.5 tackles for loss and four interceptions in his college career. He’ll make the switch from cornerback to safety with the Vikings.

Alexander (5-10, 188) played three seasons at Stanford before transferring to LSU his senior season. At LSU he made five starts and appeared in 13 games, making 23 tackles and breaking up three passes. Throughout his time at Stanford he made three starts and appeared in 41 games, recording 57 tackles with one interception. He’s an experienced slot cornerback.

Keely (6-6, 220) was originally recruited as a tight end. He began his college career at South Dakota State before transferring to Iowa Western Community College. Keely played his final two seasons at University of Alabama – Birmingham where he recorded 43 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He fits the mold of a raw, athletic prospect the Vikings like to bulk and coach up.

In order to keep the roster at 90 players the Vikings waived safety Jordan Martin, who was formerly with the AAF, as well as offensive tackle Adam Bisnowaty. Bisnowaty was signed to the team’s practice squad last October. He did not appear in a game for the Vikings.

Last year the Vikings signed four players following the camp, including wide receiver Chad Beebe and cornerback Craig James.

Salary cap update

The Vikings currently have $793,804 in salary cap according to the NFLPA public salary cap report. The team will need to clear roughly $1.54 million in order to sign first-round pick Garrett Bradbury.
