David Parry waived

The corresponding roster move to account for the Minnesota Vikings signing defensive tackle Tom Johnson was announced Wednesday. Defensive tackle David Parry was waived in order to make room for Johnson on the 53-man roster.

Parry, 26, recorded a solo tackle, assisted tackle and a sack in two games this season. He earned a Pro Football Focus grade of 50.5 against Seattle in Week 1 and a 65.9 mark against Green Bay in Week 2. While Parry seemed to play well for the most part, the team felt more comfortable bringing back Johnson.

According to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, head coach Mike Zimmer wants Johnson to be the backup to Sheldon Richardson at three technique. Like he did in his first go around with the team, he’ll focus on the rushing the passer whereas Jaleel Johnson will see more time at nose tackle (where Parry was the backup) behind Linval Joseph.

Parry is a likely candidate for the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Stacy Coley lands with the Giants

Wide receiver Stacy Coley, who was waived to make room for kicker Dan Bailey, was claimed by the New York Giants. The Vikings had hoped to sign Coley to the practice squad if he cleared waivers. Pat Shurmur, Minnesota’s offensive coordinator last season, is the head coach of the NY Giants.

Jack Tocho released

The Vikings on Wednesday terminated the contract of defensive back Jack Tocho, who was listed on the team’s practice squad/injured list.
