The Minnesota Vikings got some positive news this morning as both running back Jerick McKinnon and wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson participated in the team’s walk-thru. Whether or not they will be on the practice field this afternoon has yet to be determined.

Our live coverage of Vikings training camp continues…

Now!

2:35pm – During the Vikings break in between their walk-thru and afternoon practice, the team announced the signing of running back Kevin Monangai. Minnesota’s roster is now at the 90-man limit.

2:45pm – The Cordarrelle Patterson watch is over today just as fast as it begun. Minnesota’s fourth-year receiver will not participate in the team’s practice this afternoon.

2:55pm – It seems like the Vikings were teasing everyone with McKinnon and Patterson this morning as neither will be on the field for today’s practice. But the newest running back in Minnesota is already in pads and ready to go.

3:00pm – Practice is finally starting to begin as the team goes right into working on their kickoff returns and their coverage.

3:10pm – The Vikings are done with kickoff scenarios and have now broken off into their positional groups to do some drills. Based on when practice started today and the lack of anxiousness on the field so far, Minnesota’s players might be starting to really feel the effects of training camp.

3:20pm – The Vikings are now back to practicing their goal line scenarios. A lot of emphasis has been put on this throughout training camp as it is obviously an area the coaching staff would like to see the offense improve upon in 2016.

3:30pm – Rookie wide receiver Laquon Treadwell has had an impressive camp so far. Some struggles early today, but nothing that cannot be corrected with some proper coaching.

3:35pm – New offensive line coach Tony Sparano has been a breath of fresh air for the Vikings during camp so far. It would be very surprising if the offensive line does not progress from a season ago.

3:40pm – Minnesota’s wide receivers seem to be a bit sloppy today with multiple drops. I hope they have not forgotten who their head coach is and they he will make sure they hear about it after practice.

3:45pm – Some great battles going on between the wide receivers and the defensive backs right now. Charles Johnson vs Xavier Rhodes and Laquon Treadwell vs Trae Waynes have been two of the most intriguing matchups in camp so far.

3:50pm – The young safeties on this Vikings roster have been performing really well. Current starting strong safety Andrew Sendejo should continue to watch his back as there are plenty of players capable of taking his spot sooner than later.

4:00pm – Minnesota’s should not worry about their offensive line’s ability to create holes for Adrian Peterson this season. As for being able to pass block for Teddy Bridgewater, that has yet to be determined. Good luck Teddy…

4:15pm – Vikings kicker Blair Walsh takes a break from answering questions about his missed kick last year and has begun booting balls through the uprights.

4:35pm – As practice begins to come to an end, the team lines up for some 11-on-11s. Interested to see how Peterson performs during the passing plays given that McKinnon is out today. Second year cornerback Trae Waynes also getting the opportunity to work with the first team defense today.

4:40pm – Good day for the offense today, which is good for a young Minnesota passing attack that ranked near the bottom of the league at the end of 2015.

4:45pm – Wide receiver Charles Johnson is continuing to have an excellent training camp today. The Vikings are hoping he can rebound from last season where he was hampered by a rib injury for most of the year.

4:55pm – Waynes having a strong day for Minnesota today. This should help a lot of fans breathe easier this season as the team should be able to pair him with Xavier Rhodes (who is having a good camp himself) at the start of the season without too much questioning.

5:00pm – Minnesota now ending practice with more focus on their kickoff units. That will be all from us here at Vikings Territory today.

Join us again here in the morning for the Vikings seventh day of training camp in Mankato!
