Via Tom Pelissero of the USA Today, Terence Newman has re-signed with the Minnesota Vikings:
The report has been confirmed by multiple media outlets.
It was reported earlier this month that Newman wanted to stay with the team, and while it took a week, it’s clear now the feeling was mutual. He’ll get a slight bump from last year’s $2.25 million salary, but still comes at a decent price for a player who, at 37 years old, was a solid starter and stabilizing presence in 2015. Newman is a Mike Zimmer guy, and Zimmer must be convinced he still has something left in the tank. Ideally, Newman move into a reserve role and provide depth and passing down flexibility next year, either at corner or safety or both.
The move comes the same day the Vikings officially announced the re-signing of cornerback Marcus Sherels, and a day after they let Josh Robinson walk via free agency. With Newman and Sherels back in tow, plus Captain Munnerlyn, Xavier Rhodes, and Trae Waynes, we have a pretty good idea of how the cornerback position will look in 2016. The group will have continuity, depth, and experience, which is a good thing in today’s NFL.

Happy they got this done.I think we will be drafting a Safety in the first 3 rounds,so having a veteran like Terrence to teach the rookie in Zims system is great.Also need the support for Trae.
now we just need to sign Asiata, and i will be happy w our free agency. I think getting all of these guys back for another shot in 2016 is going to pay dividends. i think all of these guys are going to be just itching to make amends after how the season finished in 2015.

By any objective standard outside the lands of billionaires, corporate golden parachutes, Super Bowl-winning QB's or post-rookie deals for All-Pros, a 33.3% raise, or $750,000, is hardly a "slight bump," Sam, especially for a player as long in the tooth as Newman. I'd say this was a good deal for both sides.
