Raise the Bar with Anthony Barr this Giving Tuesday
Vikings Territory has a long tradition of supporting worthwhile causes. From Chad Greenway’s Lead the Way Foundation to the Mike Zimmer Foundation, giving back to the community is something near and dear to the website’s heart. Through More Than Words, Vikings Territory, members of the Minnesota Vikings, and our loyal readers have raised tens of thousands of dollars for those in need.
And on this Giving Tuesday, an annual holiday where you can donate some of your time, a donation, gift or the power of your voice in your local community, we offer a new cause — Anthony Barr’s Raise the Barr Foundation.
Launched in June 2016, Raise the Barr strives to provide financial support to single mothers wishing to further their education. The child of a single parent himself, Barr learned from his mother the importance of education and the impact it had on the lives of his mother, younger brother, and himself. Inspired by her strength, Barr launched his foundation to improve the livelihoods of single mothers and their children in the Twin Cities.
As part of Giving Tuesday, Barr announced a 24-hour challenge through his Twitter account; a one-day goal to raise $5,500 for his foundation. Like many other companies and celebrities, Barr used the power of social media and collaboration to make a difference. Fans could easily follow a link to his website and give a small gift to charity. And fortunately, you still have time to donate — the “challenge” ends at 9:30 am tomorrow!
Barr’s charitable efforts don’t stop tomorrow morning, though. His foundation is hosting a number of events, including an autograph signing with our friends at FanHQ. For $100, with all proceeds going to the Raise the Barr Foundation, 55 lucky fans will have the opportunity to meet Barr. Each ticket includes autographs from Barr (on any items), a posed photo with No. 55, and an exclusive Raise The Barr Foundation name and number tee. Tickets to the event, which will be Tuesday, December 6th at 7 p.m. in Eden Prarie, are available exclusively online.
If you can’t attend the autograph session, the foundation is also hosting a special Holiday Party and Fundraiser on Monday, December 12th. The first-annual holiday party will celebrate Raise the Barr and its commitment to organizations and people living in the Twin Cities. The Jeremiah Program is the night’s beneficiary organization, and tickets can be purchased through the Raise the Barr website.
Anthony Barr’s commitment to single mothers and their families is the next in a long tradition of giving back by the Minnesota Vikings. We hope you’ll join us in supporting such a worthwhile cause this Giving Tuesday and beyond. To learn more about Raise the Barr, visit the foundation’s website and find out how you can make a difference.
